
The position of Postdoctoral Research Associate is open in the Center for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, a NSF funded Materials Research Science and Engineering Center.Research will be performed under the supervision of Prof. Konstantinos Vogiatzis in the Department of Chemistry and Prof. Adrian Del Maestro in the Department of Physics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.The researcher will have a primary appointment in the Department of Chemistry and will work on synergistic projects related to AI-assisted simulations of quantum materials. All candidates must have successfully defended and submitted their dissertation before their employment date.The search starts immediately and continues until the position is filled.
The researcher will be responsible to develop, test, and deploy hybrid AI-assisted theoretical/computational modeling of quantum materials and collaborate with researchers from Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering. Research will involve feedback loops between theory and experiment, evaluating quantum materials design & growth and spectroscopy techniques such as neutron scattering and photoemission.
The Center for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (CAMM) focuses on applying AI to frontier problems in quantum materials.
The ideal postdoctoral research associate candidate will work on assigned research projects as well as mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
The postdoctoral research associate candidate must be knowledgeable and experienced in theoretical and computational chemistry, computational physics, and/or artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Responsible for presenting and reporting research results and publishing scientific results in peer reviewed journals in a timely manner.
Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements.
Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.
Required Qualifications
An excellent track record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer reviewed journals.
Strong verbal and writing skills.
The candidate must be willing to work independently and collaboratively with group members, and preferably also with experimental collaborators.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to set priorities, multi-task and adapt to ever changing needs with the proven ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: Research experience in artificial intelligence for quantum systems/materials.
