Position Information

The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for performing independent research on cotton fiber quality evaluation with an emphasis on end-use performance, such as ring and rotor spinning. The Research Associate is responsible for designing new cotton fiber quality testing instruments, writing books and journal articles, compiling reports, and evaluating spinning results.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and evaluates cotton fiber quality measurement systems using CAD software and related engineering tools to improve prediction of spun yarn performance across short-staple spinning systems.

  • Designs and conducts experiments focused on cotton fiber phenomics using a range of fiber quality instruments, imaging systems, and analytical protocols.

  • Develops spinning and yarn evaluation protocols for assessing the utility of novel cotton fiber phenomics and fiber quality assessment tools.

  • Develops manuscripts, technical reports, scholarly books, and other written works related to the history, application, and future direction of cotton fiber quality evaluation.

  • Uses computers, statistical software, and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of fiber research experiments and spinning outcomes.

  • Summarizes fiber quality and spinning evaluation results for inclusion in scientific publications, technical reports, and stakeholder-oriented communications.

  • Prepares proposals and reports for regional, state, and federal funding agencies with an emphasis on applied agricultural and fiber research programs.

  • Supervises undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical, or field personnel involved in research activities.

  • Operates and maintains fiber quality analysis and spinning-related equipment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in a related field.

  • Familiarity with cotton fiber quality assessment and interpretation of fiber testing results.

  • Foundational understanding of cotton spinning systems and yarn manufacturing principles.

  • Ability to design and evaluate instruments using CAD software.

  • Ability to perform statistical analysis and present technical data effectively.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work cooperatively within multidisciplinary research teams.

  • Background in textile engineering. Experience managing, operating or maintaining cotton spinning systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in project management, technical reporting, and scientific publication development.

  • Experience working with cotton fiber quality evaluation systems and spinning technologies.

  • Background in textile engineering with at least one year of experience managing, operating, or maintaining cotton spinning systems.
