Job Description

We invite applicants for a post-doctoral fellow position at the Youssef-Elshahed laboratory. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of yearly extensions based on availability of funds and annual performance evaluations. The Youssef-Elshahed laboratory is widely recognized in the areas of anaerobic fungal taxonomy, diversity, and genomics.

The successful candidate will conduct research on the diversity, ecology, evolution, and genomics of the Anaerobic gut Fungi (Phylum Neocallimastigomycota). The researcher will be tasked with assessing the diversity of Neocallimastigomycota in various habitats using innovative culture-based and culture-independent approaches. As well, the candidate will work closely with a research team investigating the genomic landscape of the Neocallimastigomycota, while simultaneously exploring the genetic basis of cellular differentiation, plant biomass degradation, and stress response machinery.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in microbiology or a related field. Applicants with knowledge and expertise in the areas of fungal genomics, fungal genetic manipulation, and anaerobic microbiology will be given special attention.
