The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will join the Novak Lab within the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and work as part of an interdisciplinary research team focused on musculoskeletal biology and skeletal healing. This position provides access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources to support both clinical and basic science research.

Research efforts will focus on understanding the bone and cartilage healing microenvironment in both physiological and pathological conditions. Areas of study include immune and hematopoietic cell interactions with mesenchymal and endothelial cells following injury, immune signaling pathways involved in skeletal healing, and transcriptional and proteomic changes that impact bone and cartilage repair. The laboratory utilizes multi-omics approaches to identify novel molecular targets with the goal of advancing pre-clinical findings toward clinical application.

The fellow will conduct experiments involving transgenic and knockout mouse models to study osteoblast and osteoclast differentiation, migration, and function during normal physiology, systemic inflammation, and fracture healing. Additional responsibilities include data analysis, preparation of manuscripts and presentations, participation in grant-related activities, and collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams. This position offers advanced training opportunities in musculoskeletal and skeletal biology research.


Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree (PhD) in biological field or biomedical sciences, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genomics, or a related field.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator and research collaborators in support of funded and proposed grant projects.

  • Assists with developing and modifying research protocols, collecting background data, troubleshooting experimental approaches, and supporting ongoing research initiatives.

  • Maintains accurate and detailed research records, including documentation of experiments and results.

  • Ensures compliance with laboratory safety standards and maintains equipment records, maintenance schedules, and related documentation.

  • Assists with preparing publications, presentations, grant proposals, and research amendments in accordance with institutional policies and federal regulations. May participate in research reviews, audits, and site visits conducted by sponsors or regulatory agencies.

  • Attends seminars, trainings, and meetings as assigned.

  • Performs additional duties as needed to support research operations and departmental goals.
