Brief Role Description

Volkswagen Audi and Lamborghini vehicles arrive into Canada by vessel (Halifax) and rail (Halifax, Charny, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver) and are distributed to dealers through a network of rail and truck transportation. The Port Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the 3rd party operations at the Halifax Port and the 7 Canadian railheads. This entails daily interaction with the respective service teams at these facilities and with the management teams of contractual and non-contractual carriers on priorities and expectations. This position is also responsible for monitoring the movement of vehicles from point of arrival to final delivery. This includes measuring and monitoring rail transit times, maximizing haul away carrier velocity at railheads and minimizing railroad dwell time.

Base Compensation $87,194.00 - $97,194.00. Salary range is dependent on factors such as industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications. Actual pay may vary based on experience, education, and internal compensation practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track the shipment of vehicles from both Germany, Mexico & Chattanooga into Canada.
  • Create and publish the shipping plan for each vessel arrival.
  • Create and publish daily Carrier Dwell Report
  • Monitor vehicle processing/dwell time from vessel offload to yard exit at the Port of Halifax and take corrective actions as necessary to ensure VGCA standards are met.
  • Coordinate Vehicle launches and special moves with carriers.
  • Work with Brands to ensure monthly wholesales are met.
  • Monitor vehicle processing/dwell time from railcar offload to yard exit at Canadian railheads and take corrective actions as necessary to ensure VGCA standards are met.
  • Ensure all 3rd parties are using and following the guidelines in the TQS vehicle handling policies.
  • Be familiar with the storage parameters at the Port and Railheads and manage the inventory flow in order to minimize storage costs.
  • Work with 3rd parties in the resolution of non-runner vehicles and if necessary provide technical advice and extraction if needed.
  • Ensure transportation damage claims are entered into the system in a timely manner so that costs are recovered.
  • Create and maintain purchase orders for services in the port and railheads.
  • Ensure 3rd party invoices are accurate and submitted for payment in required timeline.
  • Manage inventory of vehicle processing supplies at the port and railheads.
  • Coordinate stop orders with the VGCA PQT Manager to minimize shipping delays.
  • Update dealers & internal personnel on vehicle shipment delays.
  • Create, implement, and publish velocity reports.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education with a focus/designation in Business or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role with a strong focus on logistics and receiving/tracking goods
  • Exceptional analytical abilities

  • Ability to effectively interface with and manage third party providers

  • Understanding of transportation industry

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office products

  • Considered a strong asset in having knowledge of: ICL System; SAP System; CN Tracking System; Autoport ATS System; SAGA Warranty System
