The Portfolio Technical Director (PTD) – North America, as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) leads technical delivery across North American High Voltage Substation projects. This leadership role drives growth by fostering an inclusive, high-performing team culture. The PTD is accountable for the quality, competitiveness, and robustness of technical solutions, providing strategic direction for ACIS and FACTS portfolios from tender through execution.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide technical strategy, integrated direction, and leadership to all technical workstreams to ensure cohesive, integrated, consistent, and effective system design.
• As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), lead technical solutions during the Inquiry to Order (ITO) and Order to Remittance (OTR) phases, ensuring designs are modular, scalable, and aligned with customer needs.
• Partner with Project Engineering Directors/Managers to meet or exceed technical project goals, including engineering cost, schedule, and resource management.
• Serve as the principal technical liaison for PEMs, Application Engineers, and Bid Managers regarding solution integration, interface definition, and change management.
• Drive continuous improvement by leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for technical issues and conducting formal returns of experience.
• Ensure safety by design through mandated HAZID, HAZOP, and HAZCON processes across all portfolio projects.
• Define and validate design quality plans, including gate reviews at both the portfolio and project levels.
• Review and mitigate technical risks and opportunities, driving mitigation plans at both project and portfolio levels.
• Lead the North American Technical Expert Program (TEP) and represent the organization at technical conferences and professional meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or college.
• 15+ years of broad experience in engineering, with at least 10+ years of specific experience in large, complex HV substation project activities.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification within the United States and/or Canada.
• Current US, Canada work authorization

Desired Profile & Experience

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering.
• Proven experience as a Project Technical Lead with a deep understanding of ACIS, FACTS and HVDC solutions.
• Strong systems integration skills, including experience managing complex technical interfaces and requirements.
• Cross-functional experience interfacing with Gas Power, Wind, Power Conversion, and Battery Energy Storage systems.
• Deep technical domain knowledge of GE Grid Solutions (GIS, AIS, GCB, Transformers) and Grid Automation (P&C, SCADA, EMS/PMS).
• Demonstrated emotional maturity with a focus on leadership, humility, inclusion, and team development.
• Strong influencing skills and cultural competence for managing global, matrixed teams.
• Ability to communicate complex technical messages succinctly to diverse stakeholders, customers, and partners.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including occasional international travel.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $144,900.00 and $241,200.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
