Location: Hybrid (1 - 2 days on-site - seeking local candidate)Purpose of this position: The Portfolio & Project Management Office (PMO) Manager is accountable for the development and leadership of the Project Management Office and the establishment of project management standards at Hennepin Healthcare. The scope of responsibility for the PMO department is to oversee project intake and oversight, project delivery frameworks and methodology, project management, project management staffing, process refinement, reporting, and compliance for the enterprise project portfolio.The Portfolio & Project Management Office Manager is a forward-looking leader who thinks strategically about the enterprise project portfolio, recommending future direction and, in partnership with operations, leads the development of roadmaps, incorporating the current healthcare and technology environment, regulations, trends, and impacts to Hennepin Healthcare. By fulfilling this scope, the strategic alignment of all HCMC initiatives will be obtained, which will further the organization’s success.RESPONSIBILITIESLeads the Project Management team to define, communicate, and enforce project management processes and capacity planning to deliver exceptional value to the organizationCoordinates the efforts of executive leadership toward the establishment of the enterprise project portfolio, from prioritization and project approval through completion, supporting and advising on actions required to balance the portfolio for value realizationActs as the primary resource for executive and senior leadership for communications and for reporting the state and performance of the enterprise project portfolio and capacity planningProvides expertise in project management to ensure the successful and optimized management of projects and business solutions within the PMO, as well as providing project management consultative services to the organizationDesigns practices and procedures for consistent tracking of projects, resource capacity, and major workIdentifies key capability strengths to inform strategic initiative planning as well as analyzing relationships between capabilities across the enterprise to identify opportunities that can be leveraged to execute strategyProvides expert guidance and thought leadership to establish policies, procedures, delivery frameworks, and methodologies for effective project oversight and management in order to meet expectations for project execution, documentation, and ongoing operationsWorks with management and senior leadership and recommends a strategic direction and roadmap to ensure our ability to flawlessly deliver services and enabling exceptional patient care without exceptionMonitors trends, developments, and best practices in project and portfolio management in anticipation of changing requirements, expectations, and opportunities; assesses technical, financial and organizational implementation for Hennepin HealthcareImplements and advises the leadership team on implementing governance industry best practices through continuous improvement strategiesSupports the definition and direction for requests and projects, prioritizing and planning with clinical, business, and information system leaders and teams for appropriation of resources and fiscal responsibilityAttracts, develops, and leads high performing program and project managers to ensure high-value projects that are delivered on time and within budgetLiaises with Operations with the ability to engage, partner on prioritization, support, teach, and problem solveManages Departmental Performance (budget, forecasting, efficiencies, productivity, and outcomes)
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, (MIS) or a related field of studySeven (7) years of comprehensive professional level experienceExperience in a leadership role, preferably with direct reportsFive (5) years of demonstrated success in project management, operations planning, and/or process improvementExperience in Project and Portfolio managementCertification/License Required: Certified Project Management Professional, or obtain within 1 year-OR-An approved equivalent combination of education and experiencePreferred Qualifications:Previous health care provider experienceLean/Kaizen experiencePrevious Portfolio or Program Management experienceProsci or similar change management strategyKnowledge/ Skills/ Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate with people at all levels of the organizationStrong teamwork skills, including the ability to establish and sustain successful working relationships with all levels of the organizationAbility to communicate technology concepts at a level of understanding of the audience, including both technical and non-technical individualsAbility to build high performing teamsKnowledge of business risk, risk assessment, and risk-based decision-makingStrong analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skillsAbility to communication effectively with peers, team members, and operational partnersAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to successfully support a 24x7 operationAbility to multi-task and support multiple projects while updating management and customersAbility to learnExcellent written and verbal communication skillsSkilled in overseeing the efforts of team membersSuperb ability to motivate employees and inspire positive change within departmentSkilled in managerial duties (i.e. hiring, firing, performance appraisals, pay reviews)Capable of supporting the work of the departmentSkilled in fostering a positive workplace culture and building inclusive workplace teams
