The Portfolio Manager, Family Office is responsible for constructing, implementing, and monitoring customized multi-asset portfolios for ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals and multi-generational families. This role partners closely with Family Office Advisors and teams to diagnose complex client needs, develop bespoke investment solutions, and ensure portfolios remain aligned with client objectives, values, and long-term family goals. The Portfolio Manager works in close coordination with the Investment Strategy Group (ISG), which is responsible for establishing asset allocation frameworks. The Portfolio Manager implements these asset allocation models while providing thoughtful input into their design and evolution based on client needs and market insights.

Requirements

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Constructs, implements, and manages highly customized, multi-asset portfolios across public and private markets tailored to UHNW clients and family office structures.
  • Implements asset allocation models developed by the ISG, ensuring portfolios align with firm strategy while incorporating client-specific customization.
  • Provides input to ISG on asset allocation frameworks and evolving investment opportunities based on client experience, portfolio outcomes, and market conditions.
  • Partners with Family Office Advisors and teams to diagnose client investment needs, including complex objectives spanning multiple entities, generations, and liquidity profiles, and to design customized portfolio and manager allocation solutions.
  • Develops and executes transition plans for onboarding new client assets, including migration of legacy portfolios and integration into Blue Trust investment solutions.
  • Monitors portfolio performance, diversification, liquidity, and risk exposures while conducting ongoing reviews and rebalancing activities.
  • Sources, evaluates, and performs due diligence on external investment managers across asset classes, in coordination with the ISG.
  • Contributes to market research and investment due diligence efforts in collaboration with ISG to ensure consistency of insights and recommendations across the platform.
  • Leads integration of alternative and private investments within client portfolios, ensuring appropriate sizing and diversification.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on capital markets, portfolio construction, and the firm’s investment philosophy.
  • Clearly communicates investment philosophy, portfolio positioning, and market outlook to clients and internal stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and written materials.
  • Participates in client meetings, multi-generational family discussions, and presentations, demonstrating judgment, discretion, and the ability to adapt communication styles.
  • Collaborates with operations and compliance teams, custodians, and external partners to ensure portfolios are implemented effectively and in accordance with regulatory and firm standards.
  • Supports Family Office client service delivery by collaborating with planning, tax, estate, and other functional specialists to deliver holistic solutions.
  • Supports the development of investment materials, thought leadership content, presentations, and educational resources related to capital markets and alternatives.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients, Advisors, ISG professionals, internal teams, and external managers.
  • Understands the financial planning philosophy and biblical basis upon which Blue Trust serves its client base and applies these principles in personal finances.
  • Approaches work, interactions and relationships in a manner consistent with the Company’s Core Values.
  • Maintains the highest fiduciary, ethical, and compliance standards in all aspects of portfolio management and client interaction.

Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of global capital markets, asset allocation, and portfolio construction across public and private investments.
  • Strong experience working in partnership with centralized investment strategy or research teams (e.g., ISG).
  • Experience serving ultra-high-net-worth families, family offices, institutional investors, or similar sophisticated client segments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex portfolios with multiple objectives, entities, and time horizons.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across multi-generational families.
  • High level of judgment, discretion, and sensitivity to confidential client matters.
  • Ability to articulate investment philosophy and portfolio decisions with clarity and conviction and to explain complex investment concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to work effectively across interdisciplinary teams.
  • High integrity and alignment with firm values and mission.

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s in Finance, or similar) preferred.
  • 10 to 15+ years of experience in portfolio management, investment management, alternatives research, family office, endowment, foundation, OCIO, or institutional investment experience.

Certifications:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation strongly preferred
  • CAIA preferred

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is required, anticipated at 10-25%
