Job Description

Portfolio Analyst

📍 New Plymouth, Tauranga & Wellington with remote and flexible working options available

🕐 Permanent - Full-time

This just might be the opportunity you are looking for. If you thrive on making sense of complex delivery activity, turning data into insight, and helping leaders make better decisions, join us in strengthening our enterprise portfolio performance capability.

Fundamental to our business strategy is making sure the right work is visible, prioritised, sequenced, and delivered well. As our Portfolio Analyst, you’ll help maintain a clear, reliable view of delivery performance across Powerco’s full portfolio of initiatives — from major programmes through to business-led initiatives. Think less “spreadsheet jockey”, more “air traffic control for strategic delivery”.

You’ll work closely with the PMO, Strategy and Business Planning, Finance, Data Digital and Technology, programme leads, and business teams to ensure delivery activity remains aligned to our strategic and business plan commitments. The role is focused on visibility, insight, consistency, and decision support — not managing project delivery itself.

What we offer you

  • Positive and supportive team culture and the opportunity to thrive in a genuinely caring and fun environment
  • Loads of flexibility – we embrace hybrid working
  • All the usual stuff, but way better – 4% KiwiSaver, ability to buy extra leave, paid volunteer days, free fruit in the office, amazing Parental Leave entitlements, free life and medical insurance – Wow!!!

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Business Planning, this role sits within our Strategy and Finance team and plays an important part in helping Powerco understand how its delivery portfolio is performing.

You’ll maintain an integrated view of organisational delivery activity, capacity utilisation, risks, benefits performance, delivery progress, and portfolio trade-offs. Your mahi will help governance forums and senior leaders make informed decisions about prioritisation, sequencing, escalation, and where intervention may be needed.

You’ll be responsible for keeping portfolio information accurate, consistent, and useful — building confidence that the organisation has a reliable view of what is being delivered, where pressure points are emerging, and whether benefits are being realised.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain a consolidated view of delivery activity across major programmes and business-led initiatives
  • Track delivery progress against agreed milestones, outcomes, and performance expectations
  • Monitor organisational delivery capacity and highlight emerging overload risks
  • Provide clear portfolio reporting to support prioritisation, sequencing, and governance decisions
  • Identify delivery risks, conflicts, overlaps, and emerging performance trends
  • Maintain disciplined data management and reporting practices
  • Track benefits realisation across the portfolio and identify variances against approved targets
  • Support continuous improvement of portfolio reporting tools, processes, and enterprise portfolio management capability

To be a success in this role, you will need

  • Experience in portfolio reporting, programme coordination, performance monitoring, or a similar discipline
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to turn delivery data into clear, practical insight
  • Confidence working with data, reporting systems, dashboards, and performance measures
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple business units and functional teams
  • Great attention to detail and comfort maintaining accurate, reliable information
  • A structured approach to problem solving, reporting discipline, and continuous improvement
  • The ability to spot trends, risks, capacity pressure, and delivery performance issues early

It would be ideal if you have:

  • Experience working with structured governance or delivery frameworks
  • Exposure to infrastructure, utilities, regulated environments, or asset-intensive organisations
  • Experience with capacity and workload analysis
  • An interest in strategy, business planning, benefits realisation, and enterprise performance
