Job Description

Position: Porter 3

Department: Facilities

Performs custodial duties to meet established cleanliness and quality standards in such areas as public area walkways, restrooms, and office areas of the Gaming Enterprise Division’s (GED) buildings and facilities. This is the third in a series of five (5) classifications. Incumbents work at a high level of expertise, exercise judgment, and independence in performance of duties, and may instruct others.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

  • Performs the duties of Porter 1 and 2.
  • Cleans spa rooms and around swimming pools.
  • Disposes of trash and soiled goods in the Spa; assists with folding of towels and restocking of goods as possible.
  • Sets up, arranges, and removes such items as tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare or recover the facility due to special events.
  • Spray buffs, sport-seals, strips, seals, and waxes floors using the correct chemicals and equipment for different coverings
  • Shampoos rugs and carpets using commercial-type vacuum cleaners and shampooing equipment.
  • Vacuums, spot cleans and extracts carpeted floor surfaces.
  • Removes and cleans floor mats and entrance rug runners.
  • Operates cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and carpet machines safely and correctly.
  • Checks that all cleaning equipment is in working condition on a regular basis and makes minor repairs; reports major issues to supervisor.
  • Assists with inspecting the work of others, when requested.
  • Assists with training team members, when requested.
  • Completes requests and services promptly and in the allotted time.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas throughout the shift practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.
  • Completes the set up and take down for special events, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; uses as directed.
  • Supports and enforces departmental as well as the GED’s policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory policies, such as completion of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Turns in found articles in accordance with Facilities and GED policies and procedures.
  • Attends periodic departmental and GED meetings; attends professional and personal development training programs.
  • Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell to guests using a guest’s name, when possible, and making good eye contact.
  • Provides attentive, courteous, and professional service to all guests and team members, striving to always exceed their expectations.
  • Answers questions about general property information and amenities.
  • Displays a diplomatic, polished, and professional demeanor in the workplace.
  • Knowledge in waxing, stripping, and sealing flooring.
  • Notifies supervisor concerning any need for any maintenance repairs or additions observed.
  • Assist in inventorying floor care products.
  • Required to use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential functions of the position:

  • Must be able to constantly lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to drive/travel to or work at all CDS properties or any other events necessary for this specific role.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder height, handle, pull, kneel, stoop, squat, grip, crouch, crawl, twist, and bend for duties, including inspections and work in confined or cramped spaces, indoor/outdoor events, uneven surfaces, and up or down stairs.
  • Must be able to perform primary job duties while exposed to inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments for extended durations.
  • Must be able to follow both verbal and written directions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate with all guests, team members, and internal/external vendors positively and professionally.
  • Must be able to work in environments with high noise levels, flashing lights, smoking areas, and large crowds.
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to read, identify, and comprehend all labels on the items used for all duties.
  • May be exposed to chemical, fumes, cleaning agents, and other hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person and use a two-way radio.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards as well as hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of departmental and the GED’s internal controls, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Skill in using cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards safely and correctly.
  • Strong organizational, planning, time management, and communication skills.
  • Skill in working courteously with the public as well as developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to determine and use the appropriate cleaning products and equipment for tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete work assignments efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to identify, correct unsafe practices/conditions and safely operate equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow procedures to handle and store chemicals properly as well as maintain log of Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair facility, equipment, and grounds.
  • Ability to complete assigned task/projects of Knowledge in waxing, stripping, and sealing flooring without any assistance.
  • Ability to make adjustments and repairs, as necessary.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to operate floor buffer, carpet extractor, and other floor machines.
  • Ability to maintain floor surfaces and stairwells, including, but not limited to the following to sweeping, moping, buffing, polishes, scrubs, strips and refinishes hard-surface floors using heavy equipment.
  • Ability to complete program Training Courses as needed within a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years’ cleaning services experience, preferably in a multi-purpose building setting, such as a gaming, hotel, and convention center complex.
  • Must successfully pass a Porter 3 exercise/audition.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, responsiveness, and initiative.
  • Demonstrated track record of providing superior guest service.
  • Must be able to work (may require shift changes), weekends, holidays, and special events), as needed.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain, and retain a valid gaming license/background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
