Position: Porter 2

Department: Facilities

Performs custodial duties to meet established cleanliness and quality standards in such areas as public area walkways, restrooms, and office areas of the Gaming Enterprise Division’s (GED) buildings and facilities. This is the second in a series of five (5) classifications. Incumbents work at a higher level of expertise than Porter 1 and exercise some judgment and independence in performance of duties.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

  • Performs the duties of Porter 1.
  • Initiates work orders for routine maintenance or repair.
  • Moves furniture, equipment, or fixtures, as required.
  • Assists with setting up, arranging, and removing such items as tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare or recover the facility due to special events.
  • Replaces burned out light bulbs giving notice to supervisor.
  • Washes walls, doors, and woodwork.
  • Washes accessible interior and exterior windows as well as features such as display cases, interior partitions, and light fixtures.
  • Vacuums and spot clean rugs and carpets.
  • Assists with removing and cleaning floor mats and entrance rug runners.
  • Assists with spray buffing, stripping, sealing, and waxing floors using the correct chemicals and equipment for different coverings.
  • Assists with shampooing rugs and carpets using commercial-type vacuum cleaners and shampooing equipment.
  • Operates cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and carpet machines safely and correctly.
  • Assists with checking that all cleaning equipment is in working condition on a regular basis and reports any problems to supervisor.
  • Completes requests and services promptly and in the allotted time.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas throughout the shift practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.
  • Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; uses as directed.
  • Supports and enforces departmental as well as the GED’s policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory policies, such as completion of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Turns in found articles in accordance with Facilities and GED policies and procedures.
  • Attends periodic departmental and GED meetings; attends professional and personal development training programs.
  • Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell to guests using a guest’s name, when possible, and making good eye contact.
  • Provides attentive, courteous, and professional service to all guests and team members, striving to always exceed their expectations.
  • Answers questions about general property information and amenities.
  • Displays a diplomatic, polished, and professional demeanor in the workplace.
  • Required to use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Engages in cleaning of buildings, office facilities, and surrounding areas.
  • Trains and instructs Porter 1 workers in proper methods and procedures of custodial work and infection control techniques.
  • Leads, trains, and provides guidance to lower-level custodial staff in proper cleaning procedures; inspects the work of custodial crews in assigned campus areas.
  • Responsible to Must be able to sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip, and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment; cleans desks, tables, and countertops; cleans and polishes metalwork.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles, clean and sanitizes restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals, and toilets; washes windows, mirrors, and walls; cleans and sanitizes showers as assigned; replenishes restroom supplies; installs dispensers, mirrors, and mirror film.
  • Operate porter cleaning equipment and utilizes porter materials and supplies in a safe and effective manner.
  • Cleans and maintains assigned buildings, classrooms, offices and restroom facilities, sweep sidewalks, stairs, and concrete areas; picks up debris exterior of the facility.
  • Secures all assigned buildings; locks all doors and windows at close of workday or after evening classes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential functions of the position:

  • Must be able to constantly lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder height, handle, pull, kneel, stoop, squat, grip, crouch, crawl, twist, and bend for duties, including inspections and work in confined or cramped spaces, indoor/outdoor events, uneven surfaces, and up or down stairs.
  • May be exposed to chemical, fumes, cleaning agents, and other hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to follow both verbal and written directions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate with all guests, team members, and internal/external vendors positively and professionally.
  • Must be able to work in environments with high noise levels, flashing lights, smoking areas, and large crowds.
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to perform primary job duties while exposed to inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments for extended durations.
  • Must be able to drive/travel to or work at all CDS properties or any other events necessary for this specific role.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person and use a two-way radio.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards.
  • Knowledge of departmental and the GED’s internal controls, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Skill in using cleaning equipment, products, and techniques safely and correctly.
  • Organizational, planning, time management, and communication skills.
  • Skill in working courteously with the public as well as developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to work with less supervision than Porter 1.
  • Ability to remain organized and prioritize work.

  • Ability to follow verbal directions and following oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to complete work assignments efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to identify, correct unsafe practices and conditions, and safely operate cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow procedures to handle and store chemicals properly as well as maintain log of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to use cleaning materials, equipment, and methods according to pre-determined standards.
  • Ability to learn and meet schedules and time lines; apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of the equipment and supplies utilized for the position.
  • Ability to maintain tools and equipment assigned in cleaning.
  • Ability to complete program Training Courses as needed within a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of cleaning services experience, preferably in a multi-purpose building setting, such as a gaming, hotel, and convention center complex.
  • Must successfully pass a Porter 2 exercise/audition.
  • Must be able to work (may require shift changes), weekends, holidays, and special events), as needed.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain, and retain a valid gaming license/background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

The Gaming Enterprise Division and the Tribal Enterprise Division (collectively Casino Del Sol) are divisions of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. As a result, preferential hiring will go in this order to: (1) enrolled members of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (2) Spouses and biological and adopted children of enrolled Pascua Yaqui Tribal members who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (3) Enrolled member of other Federal recognized Tribes who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; and (4) all others who meet the position’s minimum qualifications.
