Position Summary

The Portage Car Wash Associate provides hands-on vehicle cleaning services as part of the full-service car wash operation. This position may work in multiple areas of the car wash, including handwashing, vehicle finishing, drying, vehicle loading, vacuuming, and window cleaning. The position is responsible for providing quality vehicle care, safely handling customer vehicles and property, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and delivering a positive customer experience.

Position Responsibilities

• Meets and exceeds expectations of the Family Express culture, including building relationships, promoting the Living Brand, and serving as a brand advocate.
• Provides friendly and professional customer service while maintaining care and respect for customer vehicles and property.
• Performs assigned vehicle cleaning and finishing services, including handwashing, vehicle preparation, rinsing, lime removal, drying, vacuuming, window cleaning, and final touch-ups.
• Vacuums vehicle interiors, including removing and replacing floor mats and cleaning designated interior areas.
• When trained and authorized, drives customer vehicles within the car wash property and safely positions vehicles in handwash bays or onto the automatic wash conveyor.
• Follows established procedures for proper vehicle placement and movement through the wash process.
• Inspects completed work and addresses areas requiring additional cleaning or attention before the vehicle is returned to the customer.
• Safely uses cleaning products, tools, supplies, and car wash equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
• Maintains clean, organized, and safe work areas, including wash bays, vacuum areas, equipment, hoses, tools, supplies, and surrounding areas.
• Identifies and promptly reports equipment concerns, unsafe conditions, vehicle damage, customer concerns, injuries, or other incidents to management.
• Follows all company policies, operating procedures, safety requirements, and required personal protective equipment practices.
• Works cooperatively with the team to maintain an efficient flow of vehicles through the car wash and assists in other areas as trained and assigned.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Role Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age; applicants under age 18 may be considered subject to applicable youth employment laws and work restrictions.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
• Must successfully complete required training and demonstrate competency in assigned work areas.
• A valid driver's license for employees assigned to operate customer vehicles.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Previous car wash, vehicle cleaning, detailing, automotive, or similar experience
• Previous customer service experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for prolonged periods; work longer than eight (8) hour shifts, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear; taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
• Work Environment: Must have flexibility, all days of the week, when necessary. Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures for minimum of 30-minute intervals. Exposure to cleaning solvents.
