NPL now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mobile Maintenance Department under Underground Maintenance as a Tradesperson - Auto Electrical Underground

About the role

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Tradesperson - Underground Auto Electrical will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing underground auto electrical systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of NPL's underground mining facilities. This vital role supports NPL’s operations by ensuring the proper functioning of underground equipment and machinery.

In this role, you will:

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on underground auto electrical systems, including vehicle and equipment electrical systems, lighting, and related components
• Install, inspect, and test electrical systems and components, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and NPL’s safety protocols
• Respond Timely to electrical breakdowns, diagnosing faults and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime
• Conduct regular preventative maintenance on underground auto electrical equipment to ensure reliability and efficient performance
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work, including tasks completed, materials used, and issues identified
• Work closely with the maintenance and operations teams to ensure all electrical systems meet operational demands
• Assist in maintaining an inventory of spare parts and tools for electrical maintenance tasks
• Uphold high standards of health and safety awareness, ensuring compliance with NPL’s Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all safety procedures.
• Must be able to work underground at least 8 hours
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

• Have Recognized Automotive Electrical or Electrical Trade Certificates
• A valid PNG Driving license is essential
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in underground auto electrical maintenance within the mining or a similar industry
• Must have at least 3 years with RCT remote Loading Machines
• Must have at least 3 years’ experience on Sandvik machines
• Proven expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining auto electrical systems in underground equipment and machinery
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety standards in underground environments
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
• Proficiency with electrical testing and diagnostic tools
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently when required
• A commitment to maintaining a culture of safety and operational excellence.

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
