About the Centre

Carlton Baths is a vibrant community-based facility which offers a range of recreation and sporting programs for the Carlton and City of Melbourne community. In 2012, the facility underwent a $10.4M redevelopment; designed to provide the community with a range of recreational, social, cultural and educational experiences.

Carlton Baths' Aquatics space is seasonal - the 25m lap pool and kids Play Pool with interactive features is open from 1st October through to 30th April seasonally.

About the Role

As a pool lifeguard, you’ll help provide a safe swimming environment for all centre visitors. You’ll be patient, focused and friendly to keep pool-users informed and safe. Duties of the role include:

  • Supervising a large aquatic space while pro-actively ensuring a safe environment​ in and around the pool area
  • Maintaining concentrated observation of pools and patrons to anticipate and respond to problems
  • Ensuring facility rules are being obeyed whilst at the same time educating facility users about safe aquatic practices
  • Carrying out intervention and preventative action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patrons, the facility and equipment

This is a casual position with an hourly rate up to $34.96 + Super.

About You

We are seeking motivated, organised and pro-active Lifeguards to come and join the team. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and all facility users. Other required qualities are:

  • Ability to make decisions while under pressure
  • Being able to manage conflicts with patrons and users
  • Ability to stay alert and vigilant in a repetitive work environment
  • Ability to multitask
  • Providing excellent customer service for all members and guests
  • Experience in the Aquatics and Leisure industry will be highly regarded

Essential Qualifications

  • Aquatic Pool Lifeguard Certificate
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
