Nature and Scope

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides excellent customer service at the outdoor aquatic locations. Assist members and guests on the outdoor aquatic facility amenities. This is not a lifeguard position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification required within 60 days of employment (YMCA provided).
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Six months or more of related customer service experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service abilities; actively looks for ways to assist customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to recognize when a problem has occurred and communicate it to management.
  • New Hire Orientation, Intro to the Y’s Cause and Culture, I hear you…Service with Care and Living our Cause-Front Line trainings within 90 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Professionally communicate instructions to members and guests of the outdoor aquatic facility.
  • Smile, greet, and thank all patrons and guest.
  • Prevents accidents and allows for the enjoyment of all guests through the fair and consistent enforcement of policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of individuals using the aquatic facility.
  • Perform first aid when necessary and complete appropriate incident/accident reports.
  • Keep aquatic facility clean, including picking up and putting away equipment as well as daily cleaning tasks.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, staff activities and ongoing trainings.
  • Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT:

The effectiveness of this position is primarily measured by the stated satisfaction of members and ensuring a safe, clean and controlled environment in accordance with the Metro Atlanta YMCA Philosophy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear noises and distress signals.
  • More than 90% of shift is spent outdoors.
  • The noise level is normal to loud within an active YMCA program environment.
  • Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
