Job Description

Performs diagnostic sleep testing and CPAP trials per physician order and in accordance with department policy and procedure. Makes necessary arrangements for follow-up care and home therapy as prescribed by the physician

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions. Analyzes complex situations and applies policy.
  2. Oversees and assures department compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards including State Board of Health, the Joint Commission and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
  3. Performs technically adequate and interpretable diagnostic sleep studies and CPAP studies on a wide variety of patients and in adherence to departmental policy and procedure and the industry standard of care. This includes continuous monitoring of patient activity before, during and after testing to ensure patient safety and quality recordings.
  4. Performs equipment calibrations, preventative maintenance and cleaning according to department policy and procedure. Performs minor repairs within the scope of their expertise and ability or reports the need for any repairs.
  5. Evaluates equipment and inventories supplies and informs Director or Lead Neurodiagnostic Technician of material and equipment needs.
  6. Performs related work as required in data collection, record scoring, and record keeping.
  7. Participates in quality assurance activities of the department and maintains knowledge of current standards of care. Serves as a resource person to non-sleep credentialed co-workers and provides leadership in matters pertaining to department operations.
  8. Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.

Secondary Job Duties That May be Reassigned:

  1. Assists with routine administrative office duties.
  2. Participate in surrounding Health Fairs and/or other community service activities to market and bring awareness to the public about sleep disorders.

Job Specifications:

  • Education: Minimum of entry level degree in Respiratory Care OR Equivalent education and training as approved by the Medical Director.
  • Experience: Prior patient care experience required with preference to those with experience in sleep disorders.
  • License/Credentials: Respiratory Care Practitioner (IPLA) or Equivalent and Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) through the NBRC or Sleep Technologist Certification through the ABSM or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) through the BRPT
