Policy Officer

  • Location: Parramatta with access to hybrid working arrangement
  • Full-time ongoing opportunity (35 hours per week
  • Salary from $116,981 to $129,492 pa. + super and annual leave loading

This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only.

Your role

This role sits within the AHO Housing Policy team and works closely with Senior Policy Officers, Subject Matter Experts, business units, Homes NSW and Aboriginal stakeholders to ensure policies are implemented effectively and remain culturally appropriate, practical and responsive.

You will be responsible for coordinating implementation activities, developing training products, supporting stakeholder engagement and providing cultural perspectives that strengthen policy outcomes for Aboriginal peoples and communities.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and coordinate the implementation of AHO housing policies, guidelines and frameworks.
  • Develop engaging training materials, presentations and communication products to support policy implementation.
  • Deliver face-to-face and online training and information sessions to AHO staff, ACHPs and other stakeholders.
  • Work with Senior Policy Officers to support policy review, development and consultation activities.
  • Provide cultural insight and guidance to ensure policies are culturally appropriate and responsive to Aboriginal communities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal stakeholders, ACHPs, Homes NSW and internal business units.
  • Support ongoing monitoring of policy implementation and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with consultation activities, stakeholder engagement and community feedback processes.
  • Contribute to implementation planning, issue resolution and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records, implementation tracking and reporting documentation

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, communities and housing issues.
  • Can communicate complex information clearly and confidently to a range of audiences.
  • Has experience designing and delivering training, workshops or community engagement activities.
  • Can build productive relationships with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
  • Has experience contributing to policy, programs, projects or service delivery initiatives.
  • Demonstrates strong organisational skills and can manage multiple priorities.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a high-performing team.
  • Is committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal people and community

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.

  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
