Job Description

Retired Indiana Public Employees Association (RIPEA)

Position: Policy Manager

Compensation: $55,000 Minimum Base Salary (plus additional salary in lieu of benefits package)

Job Type: Full-time

Location: Onsite (Indianapolis) with statewide travel as needed

Schedule: Monday – Friday, business hours; occasional evening events

Make an impact advocating for 40,000+ public retirees across Indiana.

RIPEA is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to helping Indiana's public employees retire well through relationships, insurance benefits, policy advocacy, and education. We are looking for a strategic, engaging Policy Manager to strengthen RIPEA's legislative voice and help members shape the issues that affect their retirement security, healthcare, and financial well-being.

What you'll be doing:

This is a new role with the opportunity to build. You will combine policy research with public-facing advocacy and work directly with the Executive Director, Board Policy Committee, contract lobbyists, legislators, coalition partners, and RIPEA members.

  • Track legislation and policy developments affecting public employee retirees, pensions, Medicare, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations
  • Turn complex issues into clear policy recommendations, briefs, testimony, action alerts, presentations, and member communications
  • Strengthen the Board Policy Committee and coordinate RIPEA's legislative agenda with leadership, lobbyists, and partners
  • Build relationships with policymakers, state agencies, coalition partners, media, and members throughout Indiana
  • Create new member advocacy opportunities, including policy surveys, regional meetings, a Statehouse Day, and a trained advocate network

You will thrive as our Policy Manager if you enjoy both sides of policy work; the detailed research behind the scenes and the relationship-building, speaking, and communication that move ideas forward.

  • Skilled at translating technical information into clear, useful language
  • Confident writer, presenter, facilitator, and relationship-builder
  • General understanding of government and comfortable working with legislators and public officials
  • Adept at managing competing deadlines

You will love working with us because you’ll:

  • Work closely with an engaging Executive Director and have direct access to board and organizational leadership
  • Help build RIPEA's policy and member advocacy program from the ground up
  • Pair thoughtful research with visible, relationship-centered work
  • Help 40,000 Indiana public retirees have a stronger voice in the policies that affect their lives
  • Receive a retirement savings plan with employer match plus professional development opportunities
