Summary

The Department of Transportation & Capital Construction (DTCC) is seeking a dynamic, talented and exemplary transportation professional who wants to join a high performing team of professionals to represent the Department and County at local, regional and state transportation forums while overseeing policy, and grant functions for the Department. This highly responsible position functions as the County liaison and coordinator in transportation and policy matters to other departments, County agencies, the Federal Government, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Council of Governments (COG), the Transportation Planning Board (TPB), the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA), Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission and other regional and sub-regional agencies.

About This Role: The successful candidate will put their excellent written communication and organizational skills to use supporting the regional planning, policy and programming functions of the collaborative and progressive Department of Transportation & Capital Construction (DTCC). We are looking for someone that takes ownership of their work and has a sense of pride in their assignments to ensure that work tasks are performed both timely and accurately.

This position will direct and coordinate with staff in preparing grants, plans, programs and presentations; conduct research for future road projects; program and manage a variety of funding for transportation projects; manage and participate in the development of local, regional, state and federal policy, planning and programming documents; and represent the County at transportation boards and committees.

The successful applicant will need to have exceptional oral communication and technical writing skills, be enthusiastic, organized, creative, team-oriented, and have a positive can-do attitude. This position will operate under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Business Services. This is a highly visible position that receives exposure by working with numerous groups, entities, and agencies throughout the region.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 7 years of related experience.

Preferences: The ideal candidate should have experience with technical writing and public speaking. General knowledge of Transportation projects and regional needs. Experience working with stakeholders, elected officials and public groups.

Special Requirements: This position will require the ability to operate a government vehicle to attend various meetings and forums throughout and outside the County.

Work Schedule: Normal business hours to include occasional night meetings.

Starting Salary Range: $82,777.50 - $139,288.50 Annually
