The PNG Tenure Operations branch facilitates leasing of Crown mineral rights that enable companies to develop Petroleum and Natural Gas (PNG), geothermal or pore space rights owned by the Province of Alberta. This branch issues tenure agreements, in accordance with strict legislative requirements, to industry proponents to undertake exploration, development or production activities. The branch currently administers approximately 70,000 active agreements and carries out select administrative activities for the Oil Sands, Coal, and Mineral Operations division.

The PNG Tenure Operations branch is seeking a highly organized and driven Policy Analyst to join its team. This is an opportunity to help inform policy that will shape responsible development of Alberta’s natural resources.
The Policy Analyst reports directly to the Director of the Crown Agreement Management Unit and works with minimal supervision. The position is responsible for supporting policy and planning activities for the branch, which ensures alignment and integration with the Energy Operations division and the Ministry. The Policy Analyst represents the branch, and in certain circumstances the division and departmental, bringing tenure-focused operational perspectives and information to policy/program development and planning initiatives.
This position also leads operational planning and risk management activities for the branch and responds to some audit related inquiries. The incumbent is an advisor to the Director regarding significant issues, internal/external work impacts and goal planning. The incumbent maintains and optimizes the branch's internal records management processes and recommends improvements to current business and training systems.
