The Team You’ll Work With:
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations is responsible for overseeing the City’s operations across all five boroughs. We ensure delivery of efficient and effective services, lead on capital project design and delivery, manage the City’s public realm, coordinate emergency response, and work to reduce inequality and improve public safety. The Deputy Mayor for Operations oversees a robust portfolio of City Agencies, including the Departments of Citywide Administration Services, Design & Construction, Environmental Protection, Parks and Recreation, Records, Sanitation, Technology & Innovation, Transportation, as well as the New York City Fire Department and NYC Emergency Management. The Deputy Mayor of Operations also oversees the Mayor’s Offices of Capital Project Delivery, Climate & Environmental Justice, Environmental Coordination, Data & Analytics, Contract Services, Nonprofit Services, and Operations.
The Problems You’ll Solve:
Reporting to the Senior Advisor for Emergency Operations, the Policy Advisor will be responsible for the following:
- Support the development of policy & process planning for emergency response tactics and communications between City Hall leadership and agencies.
- Serve as a liaison between the Mayor’s Office, New York City Emergency Management, the New York City Fire Department, and other agencies that conduct emergency responses.
- Coordinate across City Hall and agencies to create and implement strategies responding to various types of emergency situations and special event planning.
- Respond to emergency events across the five boroughs, as needed, to assist with coordination, planning, and communications.
- Manage incoming and outgoing communications with City Hall Executive Leadership Team, elected officials, and other community stakeholders around emergency situations.
- Coordinate inter-agency relief efforts for constituents affected by various types of emergencies.
- Support the development of community forums aimed at preparing New Yorkers for different types of both expected and unexpected emergencies.
- Coordinate and manage table-top exercises, after-action reports, and Hot Washes after emergencies to improve processes and procedures.
- Work with Intergovernmental Affairs, City Legislative Affairs, State Legislative Affairs, and Federal Legislative Affairs to address incoming requests from elected officials and support agencies.
- Write, edit, and coordinate briefings and memos for the Senior Advisor, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Mayor of Operations.
- Coordinate across Deputy Mayor teams.
About You:
- You have prior experience with NYC government administrative services, government operations, and emergency planning and response.
- You have business operations, process design, and project management experience.
- You can operate independently with excellent time management skills and confirmed ability to deliver on multiple, competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- You can effectively interact with people and partners across all levels within an organization.
- You have proven ability to follow through on complex projects from ideas to implementation.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and compelling presentations for an array of audiences.

- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 5+ years of experience in policy or programming related to government service delivery, city operations, and emergency response.
