Grand Canyon University’s Police Department is seeking full time Police Recruits to ensure the safety and security of the GCU campus. The GCU Police Department performs general and specialized police work involving the enforcement of laws and ordinances, crime prevention, and other community services.
What you will do:
- Works toward completion of state certification through an accredited law enforcement training academy.
- Maintain peak physical fitness to perform demanding tasks like running, climbing, and subduing suspects.
- Learn to interact with diverse populations, resolve social problems, and de-escalate crisis situations.
- Learns the operations of the police department through observation and participation in a wide variety of police activities.
- Learns the coordination and conduct of investigatory work.
- Learns the methods of securing scenes of a crime, administering first-aid, conducting arrests, and preparing detailed reports.
- Learn skills relevant to providing testimony as a witness in court.
- Upon academy graduation, transition into a probationary Field Training Program under the guidance of a senior officer
- Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Equipment Used and Responsibility
- Proficient with Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and proficient with utilizing database systems to retrieve data.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

What you will need:
- Must be 21 years old prior to graduating from the academy.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- High school diploma or GED
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must be able to successfully clear a comprehensive background check, polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, and medical screening that aligns with AZPOST standards.
- Must meet strict statewide drug and criminal history standards, with no felony convictions.
