The Police Records Specialist Senior serves as the Records Unit’s primary training lead and quality control checkpoint. Distinguished by elevated responsibility, this role performs complex, high-liability tasks, provides direct support to supervisors and acts as a lead in their absence. Senior Specialists are expected to demonstrate leadership, serve as a resource to peers, lead by example in ensuring accuracy, compliance and integrity across all records operations.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $32.60hour or $67,766.40 annually.

Examples of duties

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience as a Records Specialist.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirement

  • Obtain and maintain Level A Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) certification. Requires successful completion of Interstate Identification Index (III) background investigation. Training is provided on duty and certification testing is completed within first six months of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain notary status after appointment to the position.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Qualifications

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Performs all tasks of the Records Specialist.
  • Provides quality control police department documents and other work product submitted by sworn officers, detectives and supervisors for validity, accuracy and completeness. Initiates and/or finalizes corrections to errant documents.
  • Performs as the primary trainer for all new employees within the Records Section.
  • Provides quality control examination and audit of work performed by Records Specialists – high emphasis on accuracy and completeness.
  • Applies legal protocols and technical expertise in the preparation, redaction, release and audit of all body worn camera recordings to include both video and audio characteristics.
  • Ensures final disposition and public/governmental records requests are thoroughly investigated and prepared prior to submission to the county prosecutor’s office within court defined deadlines.
  • Works with Records Supervisors and other department leaders to develop process improvements maximizing unit efficiency.
