Position Summary:
Provide critical law enforcement services through routine patrol, traffic enforcement, and community protection. Responds to incidents threatening life and property including thefts, robberies, burglaries, disturbances, and arson. Conducts both on scene and follow-up investigations. Makes arrests, documents cases through detailed reports, testifies in court, operates specialized equipment, performs security checks of businesses and residences, issue citations, and carries out other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrol assigned areas to deter crime, enhance public safety, and identify suspicious activities.
- Respond to calls for service and engage in proactive policing efforts.
- Conduct preliminary and follow up investigations of crimes, incidents and accidents.
- Gather evidence; interview victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Enforce Federal, State and Local laws.
- Abide by and follow departmental policies and procedures.
- Make arrests based on probable cause and handle detainee transport and processing
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports.
- Provide court testimony regarding cases, evidence, and procedures.
- Conduct extra patrols, DUI investigations, traffic enforcement and accident investigations.
- Engage in community policing by fostering positive relationships with residents.
- Secure, preserve, and process evidence in accord with legal and departmental standards.
- Maintain physical readiness, including passing annual physical fitness and firearm tests.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and public safety.
Knowledge of:
- Federal, State and Local laws, ordinances, and regulations applicable to law enforcement.
- Law enforcement policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Principles of ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality in law enforcement.
Skilled in:
- Observing and recalling details accurately for reports, investigations, and testimony.
- Preparing clear, accurate, and comprehensive reports for incidents, arrests, and investigations.
- Quickly assessing situations, adjusting as needed, and making decisive judgements in high-stress environments.
Ability to:
- Follow strict protocols and procedures to protect self and others.
- Maintain physical readiness to perform essential tasks in various environments and conditions.
- Create positive, meaningful interactions that strengthen community relationships and reflect the guiding principles of the Farmington Police Department.
Minimum
Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate good moral character and be physically/ mentally fit for duty. Maintain required training and certifications, have a clean criminal history consistent with law enforcement responsibilities, and provide a verifiable employment and personal history that reflects integrity and reliability. Applicants must successfully pass all pre-employment screenings, which may include physical testing, a written exam, a skills assessment, an oral interview, a detailed background investigation, a polygraph, a psychological exam, and a drug screening.
Police Officer I
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 at appointment, as required for Utah P.O.S.T. certification.
- Valid Utah Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within 14 days of hire.
- Current Utah Law Enforcement Officer Certification (LEO).
- - Must be in good standing with P.O.S.T. and current employer.
- - (In Lieu of LEO must have BCO or SFO or be enrolled in LEO)
- Must meet eligibility requirements for Utah Law Enforcement Officer P.O.S.T. certification, including U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency as required by state law.
Police Officer II
- Must meet all Police Officer I qualifications.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of direct policing experience, or equivalent.
- Must possess active CIT certification and active Radar/ Lidar certification.
Police Officer III
- Must meet all Police Officer I qualifications and Police Officer II qualifications and;
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years of direct policing experience, or equivalent.
- Must possess active FTO certification, Instructor Development Certification.
- Must have a minimum of one collateral duty direct experience. Examples include, but are not limited to, Department Instructor, PIO, Evidence Management, K9, VFAST, SWAT or POU.
Physical Requirements:
Officers must maintain physical fitness standards set by Utah P.O.S.T. and departmental policy. Applicants are required to successfully pass an LEO exit standard test.
- Vertical Jump (17.5) inches)
- Push-ups (21 reps with no time constraint and no rest during this phase of the test)
- Isometric Plank (1:30 one minute 30 seconds)
- 1.5 Mile Run 14:46 or less)
Work Environment:
Work may occur indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors in office or administrative settings. Officers may encounter potentially dangerous or high stress situations, including hazardous conditions. Officers may be exposed to loud noise, hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, traffic hazards, confined spaces, and emotionally stressful situations.
Testing Process:
- Physical Fitness Test – BY INVITATION ONLY
- July 14th, 2026 starting at 9:00 am sharp
- Passing candidate will advance to next step
- Scenario & Report Writing – with qualifying physical fitness test
- July 14th, 2026 after fitness test
- Panel Interview – BY INVITATION ONLY
- July 15th, 2026

QualificationsTo be considered you will need:

- To obtain/possess and maintain LEO P.O.S.T. certification within 12 months of hire; governed by Utah Code Ann. § 53-6-203

- To be free of any physical, emotional, or mental conditions that might adversely affect the performance of duty as a Police Officer To attend mandatory training and qualify annually in specified disciplines and obtain certifications as required by department policy
You may not have been:
- Convicted of an offense involving dishonest, unlawful sexual conduct, physical violence and/or domestic violence
- Convicted of the unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance in the past five years
- Convicted of a crime for which the applicant could have been punished by imprisonment in a federal penitentiary of this or another state
