Requisition ID req38001 Working Title Police Officer Position Grade 12 Position Summary PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico has established branch colleges to serve the citizens of New Mexico and to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post-secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering community education programs, career education including certificate and associate degree programs, and transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities.

The UNM Gallup Branch Campus is seeking a Police Officer. The Police Officer position will be part of the UNM Gallup Internal Police Department. The officer will enforce local, state, and federal laws and ensures compliance with University policies. Provides security for personnel, real property, and equipment. Investigates and documents crimes/incidents, documents and preserves evidence, and provides legal testimony. May be assigned to any shift; may perform campus patrol or serve as substation, victim/witness assistance, or crime prevention officer.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the POA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited law enforcement academy; no previous experience required. Certification/Licensure State of New Mexico Certified Law Enforcement Officer, or eligibility for Certification by waiver.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years law enforcement experience
  • Experience in educational environments
  • Experience working with diverse demographic and age groups.
