Administers and oversees all operations of the Police Department; supervises Sergeants to ensure that law and order are maintained, laws and ordinances enforced, and all Departmental operations are properly maintained and implemented to ensure the maintenance of a positive and cooperative relationship between the Department and the Upstate Hospitals assigned and to perform related law enforcement, supervisory and administrative duties, as required.
NOTE: The Greenville Health Authority Police Department does not participate in the South Carolina Police Officer Retirement System (SC PORS). GHA Police Officers are offered a matching 457B plan provided through the relationship with Prisma Health as a retirement saving plan.
Essential Functions

Leads, manages, and directs all law enforcement activity including monitoring and coordinating police investigations and psychiatric patient transports while liaising with hospital management, social workers, and local law enforcement agencies to ensure a positive flow of information. Works on budgetary projects as assigned by the Chief of Police including vehicle replacement, firearm, duty gear, and uniforms; assure all invoices are approved for payment through the Accounts Payable office; serves as assistant to the Property and Evidence Custodian while ensuring compliance with current standards.
Serves as the Department's NCIC Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) which includes being NCIC Certified according to the Department's level of functionality while maintaining the required NCIC Audit Files including the mandated requirement of monthly NCIC validations; serves as the NCIC liaison with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office NCIC to assure all NCIC entries and clears are compliant with audit standards.
Serves as the Department's Records Administrator which includes the review of incident reports to assure compliance with UCR standards while liaising with the Solicitor's Office, hospital risk management, social workers, general counsel, Department of Social Services, and local law enforcement agencies; also completes the State required NIBRS and SCIBRS monthly reports while liaising with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Serves as the Department's Training Officer including the assignment and documentation of all training courses, scheduling firearm, OC gel, ASP baton, and taser training to assure that all police officers remain in compliance with the SC Criminal Justice Academy to maintain their law enforcement certification and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for Group I Constable Commissions. Also responsible for every police officer to attain and maintain their South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle Access as well as their Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Security and Awareness certification. Manages the collection, retention, and distribution of all applicable healthcare training records in compliance with federal, state, and hospital regulations including but not limited to the Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).
Serves as the Department's crime statistician including the workplace violence and psychiatric patient transport data providing annual and monthly reports to the Chief of Police and hospital administrators.
Identifies and develops new programs, systems, procedures, or equipment specifications for the improvement of the Department's performance. Assigns, directs and coordinates police officers to achieve Departmental objectives including the creation, review and draft of Department General Orders. Maintains files to the standard of accreditation agencies such as SC PAC and IAHSS.
Serves as the Department's Hiring Manager working closely with Talent and Acquisition and Human Resources to assure that the Department's recruiting and hiring efforts are attracting and hiring the most professional, trained police officers for a healthcare setting.
Represents the Department on hospital committees such as the Emergency Management Committee, Threat Assessment Team, Workplace Violence Committee and other groups as determined by Chief of Police.
Serves as the Department's Timekeeper possessing a knowledge of the Kronos Timekeeping System while have the responsibility to review and approve all timecards including the entering of court, training, and Paid Time Off (PTO) to assure accuracy for pay.
Presents Department presentations to clients of the Greenville Health Authority (i.e. Prisma Health, University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Clemson University School of Nursing, etc.)
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Job related course work beyond high school, such as, criminal justice courses preferred
Experience - Five (5) years of Law Enforcement Supervision/Management experience

South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Class I Law Enforcement Officer Certification
Certification through International Association of Hospital Security and Safety
