Summary

A Police Clinician II, under general supervision, performs evidence-based practice according to nationally recognized standards to reduce symptoms and maximize recovery for individuals engaged who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis. A Police Clinician II is assigned to a precinct partnering in co-response in the community within the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Model. A Police Clinician II ensures that all documentation of client contact, and treatment services is complete, thorough, and accurate, to meet all agency, state, and professional standards. An employee in this class conducts initial screen & assessments that accurately build on strengths and deficits resulting in a DSM diagnosis. All behavioral health professionals provide on-call support each month according to the determined schedule.

Examples of duties

1. Must hold a master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or closely related field AND be fully licensed from the State of Michigan in their relevant field within 90 days of hire.
2. Have a minimum of one (1) year of previous experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness and/or serious emotional disturbance; please note, internships count as work experience if they are documented in the Work Experience section of the employment application.
3. Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
4. Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.

Preferred but not Required

1. Bilingual candidates highly desired.
2. Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
3. Individuals in Recovery and individuals with experience in Armed Services valued.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

An employee in this class generally performs sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

A Police Clinician II is assigned to a precinct and will generally interact with teams throughout the various HealthWest program locations; however, travel to locations within the County may be required.

EVALUATION CONTENT

Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position.
