Job Title:

Police Cadet - Campus PoliceThe Police Cadet position is a non-sworn, developmental role within the University Medical Center Police Department. It is designed to introduce students and aspiring law enforcement professionals to public safety operations in a healthcare academic environment. Under close supervision, cadets perform a variety of support duties and receive exposure to the complexities of law enforcement in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary medical campus.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

High school diploma/GED. Must be 18 years of age.

Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations Required:

Valid US Driver’s License

Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong interest in healthcare security, law enforcement, or public service careers. Basic understanding of medical center operations and visitor management principles. Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingual ability is a plus. Capacity to maintain composure in fast-paced, high-stress environments. Familiarity with confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA) is strongly preferred, and Proficient in basic computer use and mobile communication devices.

Responsibilities:

• Support administrative and operational functions including dispatch assistance, report processing, records management, and credentialing.
• Observe sworn officers during routine patrols, patient safety escorts, and response to critical incidents within inpatient, outpatient, and research facilities.
• Provide customer service and wayfinding support for patients, visitors, and staff while maintaining a visible, professional presence.
• Assist with community policing initiatives, outreach events, and security surveys under guidance.
• Participate in scenario-based training, emergency drills, and wellness/fitness development activities.
• Monitor video surveillance systems, access control points, and security systems under supervision.
• Assist in the inspection and stocking of police vehicles, first aid kits, and specialized equipment.
• Uphold departmental confidentiality standards, especially regarding HIPAA-protected environments.
