About the Opportunity

The City of Ventura is accepting applications for the position of Police Cadet The Police Cadet is responsible for performing a wide variety of routine duties to assist Police Department personnel in accomplishing their activities. The Police Cadet is a training position intended to provide incumbents with exposure to the full spectrum of Police operations and procedures, as preparation for a future career related to law enforcement.

This is a temporary part-time “extra help" at-will position, with ongoing year-round hiring. Extra help positions work less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) subject to budget availability and agency needs. Police Cadets may work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Ideal Candidate – Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position:

  • Has completed or is enrolled in criminal justice program courses

  • Is interested in a law enforcement career and enjoys contributing to public safety in the community

  • Has excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and can respond diplomatically and tactfully to people of diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications – Required

A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and six months of experience involving public contact are required. Police Cadets must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.

License Possession of a valid California Class C driver license and acceptable driving record are required.
