The Poison Information Provider serves as a knowledge resource to the lay community in the event of a poisoning emergency, and uses independent judgment to help physicians plan the optimum management of toxicologic problems. The position evaluates the toxic hazards and initiating appropriate management of toxicologic emergencies, potential rabies exposures, and other public health related problems presented by the lay public and healthcare professional callers. This position interacts with government emergency resources in organizing a response to toxic emergencies, reports all potential rabies exposures to Georgia Department of Public Health, and represents the poison center through community health programs.
Assists in the management of poisoning as a public health problem through participation in public and professional education programs, representing the Center publicly in appearances at workshops, seminars, lectures, and health fairs.
Participates in mentorship program for new and current students-in-training.
Provides physicians and other medical staff callers with information on agent toxicity, pharmacokinetics, detailed medical management and prognosis in a clear, understandable, and professional manner.
Works in collaboration with staff, other health care providers and lay callers.
Enhances and maintains the Center's capabilities by keeping up with current consumer products, chemical recalls, and agency bulletins relative to toxins which impact on human and environmental health issues
Training and experience within the medical health field as a pharmacy, nurse, or medical student.
