As a worldwide leader in the tech and media space, Pocket-lint operates at a rapid pace and we are currently looking for a Freelance News Writer to join our team on a 1099 freelance basis—specifically someone who can pitch, track, and write original, high-quality news content regarding breaking tech, streaming updates, and viral internet culture in a timely and rapid manner.

Your Responsibilities

• Identify, pitch, and report on breaking news stories across the consumer tech, gaming, streaming, and digital entertainment space.
• Extract the core of a story quickly to deliver highly accurate, informative, and timely reports in a fast-paced environment.
• Pitch unique, reader-obsessed news angles and trending pop culture updates to our Editorial team regularly.
• Input work into our in-house CMS, as well as find and format images, according to our guidelines.
• Stay up to date on the latest tech hardware releases, streaming platform updates (Netflix, Disney+, Apple, Google, etc.), and industry announcements.
• Coordinate with the editorial team for rapid assignments, breaking coverage, and feedback.
• Follow Pocket-lint’s general Editorial Guidelines while producing unique, high-quality, and voice-driven news content.

Experience and Skills

• Relevant experience writing and editing breaking news or tech/entertainment content for a digital publication in the English language.
• Deep passion for consumer tech, movies/TV, gaming, and the streaming ecosystem is mandatory.
• Ability to track trending topics, monitor press releases, and cover breaking developments quickly under tight timeframes.
• Ability to think analytically; providing insightful commentary and context to an event or product drop rather than just rewriting a press release.
• Proficiency with SEO practices and experience using a custom CMS.
• A self-starter attitude with an exceptional quick-response availability during peak news hours.
