The Plumbing Designer IV will design plumbing systems, components, or assemblies using engineering principles. Perform technical activities on assigned projects under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer PE). Design and preparation of construction documents for Plumbing and Medical Gas systems for building projects. Will design or oversee the design of plumbing systems for large commercial and healthcare projects including but not limited to, sanitary sewer, medical gas, natural gas, storm drain, and domestic water systems.
Responsibilities
- Determine scope of work, code research, write project narratives, perform calculations, initiate layout of designs and prepare construction documents for plumbing and medical gas systems for specific building projects.
- Utilize Revit and/or AutoCAD to prepare Building Information Modeling (BIM) specific to each project.
- Edits plumbing system specifications for building projects.
- Attend client/owner project team design meetings, both internal and external, to ensure the proper scope of work is incorporated into the construction documents.
- Conducts site surveys to determine existing facility conditions.
- Conducts project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
- Assist Construction Administration team in preparing punch lists, project observations reports, proposal requests
- (PR), supplemental instructions (SI) and requests for information (RFI).
- Reviews project submittal documents for compliance to the scope of work for each project.
- Quality Control - Oversee drafting/BIM staff to ensure compliance of the scope of work into the construction documents.
- Works closely with project managers to produce design solutions from beginning concept to final construction documents, as well as support the contractors through construction.
- Develop construction drawings for contractors to bid and construct plumbing systems.
- Design plumbing systems that meet all local and international codes for the project location and type.
- Design plumbing systems in compliance with industry standards including but not limited to:
- IPC 2021, NFPA 99, State Fuel Gas Code, State Plumbing code, State Healthcare Regulations, Facility
- Guidelines Institute, and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.
- Interface with owners and architects to find unique solutions.
- Works closely with creative team to ensure successful execution of goals of all assigned projects.
- Works closely with project managers to create unique high-level concepts and designs for all assigned projects.
- Delivers concepts and designs according to strict project deadlines.
- Contributes to all areas of the creative process and department. Influences stylistic direction for projects.
- Performs work with a high degree of latitude.
- Handles the most complex issues.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. May act as a lead or first-level supervisor.
Qualifications
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- 2-year Technical Degree or Associates Degree in Engineering or related industry experience
- 6+ years of experience as a Plumbing Designer
- Design experience with healthcare, higher education or Central plant projects
- Certified in Plumbing Design Certification through American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE)
- Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, MS Word, MS Excel, BlueBeam.
- Ability to interpret building codes.
- Ability to read and understand disciplines other than plumbing (i.e. architectural, electrical, mechanical and fire protection)
- Strong technical skills

- Possesses expert knowledge of the subject matter

Travel Requirements
- 10-25% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
- Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.
- Climbing stairs.
- Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Operating machinery and/or power tools.
- Outdoor elements such as precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind.
- Noisy environment.
- Light to heavy work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects from 20-100 pounds.
Pay Range
USD $79,542.00 - USD $106,173.00 /Yr.
