Staff Non-exemptBucknell University is currently accepting application for a Utilities Technician I or II - Plumber. The successful candidate in this position will install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems in campus buildings. The Utilities Technician will be expected to adhere to federal standards, employee safe practices, and to follow university safety policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

Reporting Relationship:

  • Reports to the Plumbing Supervisor

Work Setting/Schedule:

  • On-campus
  • Monday – Friday, 11:00am – 7:30pm

What You Will Do:

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs campus underground sewage and storm water drainage systems and underground domestic water and fire prevention systems.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and retrofits plumbing systems and associated fixtures and components including water closets, sinks, tubs, faucets, meters, pumps, filters, water heaters, mixing valves, and emergency showers.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and modifies fire sprinkler/prevention systems to meet building needs as per The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), including sprinklers, fire pumps, and dry system compressors/valves.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains water treatment equipment, piping, and controls to maintain water chemistry in building closed loop hydronic systems, cooling towers, and boiler make-up systems. Performs backflow preventer testing and repair to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Performs maintenance on campus steam and hydronic systems and associated equipment including maintaining underground and building steam, condensate, chilled water and hot water piping systems, pumps, pump motors, steam traps, humidifiers, and heat exchangers.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, inspects, modifies, and repairs ventilation systems, air conditioning systems, and equipment including fans and fan motors.
  • Provides support for projects including executing system outages as required and attending project walks-throughs.

What You Will Bring:

Required – Utilities Technician I, Plumber

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years of related work experience

Preferred, But Not Required – Utilities Technician I, Plumber

  • Vocational or technical training or degree
  • A minimum of 4 years of related plumbing experience

Required – Utilities Technician II, Plumber

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 4 years of related work experience

Preferred, But Not Required – Utilities Technician II, Plumber

  • Vocational or technical training or degree
  • A minimum of 6 years of related plumbing experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move around the work site, including frequently required to work in crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, sewage and water line pipes, and other areas that could be claustrophobic.
  • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Requires handling of objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Includes potential exposure to hazardous conditions, such as proximity to machinery/tools, climbing, crawling, crouching, and exposure to chemicals.

Pay Rate

Utilities Technician I, Plumber $21.17 - $26.46

Utilities Technician II, Plumber $22.70 - $28.38

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
