Summary

The City of Pasadena's Public Works Department is looking for a skilled, detailed-oriented and enthusiastic journey level Plumber to join their team. The Plumber will be required to provide plumbing repair and maintenance of City facilities. Our department presents an exciting opportunity for a hard-working, reliable and dependable professional.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in a variety of commercial buildings ranging from service repair, new installations, and tenant improvements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, good decision-making skills, strong work ethic and customer service focus, and is a team player, while also working well independently. Examples of commercial buildings include but are not limited to: City Hall, Police Department, Fire Stations, Community Centers, Libraries, Health Providers, Office Environments, and Park locations.

  • Participates in skilled plumbing assignments in the repair, maintenance and installation of gas and water piping, valves, faucets, lavatories, and sanitary plumbing fixtures.
  • Cuts and threads pipe; fabricates joints, fittings, and fixtures.
  • Assists in reviewing plans and specifications of new and remodeling construction projects.
  • Operates a wide range of power tools, including but not limited to: Pro Press, power cutter and threader, cable rooter machine, hydrojet, camera and locator.
  • Assists in compiling material and labor takeoffs to accurately determine project costs.
  • Assists in training and reviewing the work performance of subordinate employees.
  • Estimates costs of work projects and charges materials, time, and equipment to proper accounts.
  • Assures that safety rules and regulations are observed within the team.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work in a timely manner based on industry best practices timeframes and checklists.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repairs in a timely manner to restore service quickly for customers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

One year of recent journey level plumbing experience. Plumbing trade-related courses completed at a recognized college or trade school may substitute for part of the required experience.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process will consist of a written exam and a department-level interview. The selection process may also include a skills evaluation.

A background check will be required as part of the hiring process, including a thorough federal government background check required to work at Police Department locations.

VACANCY INFORMATION

There is currently one vacancy in the Building Systems and Fleet Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.

Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.

Supplemental information

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.

This position involves frequent travel to various sites and locations; in addition to performing emergency call out work before and after working hours, which may include weekends. Work conditions vary from indoors to outdoors at all times of the year.

Participates in routine 24/7 stand-by rotation, currently for one-week periods each month. May also be subject to 24-hour emergency call outs; therefore, must be able to be reached by telephone at all times.

Required to work early and late overtime repairs and projects, as well as weekends.
