Job Description
U.S. Facilities, Inc. (USF) is seeking an experienced Plumber with primary experience in large life sciences pharmaceutical / laboratory industrial settings which operate 24 x 7, 365 days per year. This role focuses on the operation, maintenance, and repair of building plumbing / sewer systems and utility piping (potable water, process water, laboratory gases, natural gas, steam, and related systems).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Operate, maintain, and repair all plumbing related systems and equipment.
• Maintain and repair domestic water, sanitary, vent, storm, and specialty piping systems.
• Install, modify, and repair piping, valves, fittings, fixtures, and supports using proper joining methods (e.g., threaded, welded, soldered, brazed, press-fit).
• Perform preventive maintenance on valves, strainers, pumps, traps, backflow preventers, and related components.
• Troubleshoot leaks, flow issues, water quality issues, and equipment failures in a central utility and lab and research environment.
• Support startup, shutdown, and isolation of utility systems for maintenance and outages.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work in the CMMS (work orders, PMs, parts used, notes).
• Read and interpret piping diagrams, isometrics, and equipment submittals; update drawings as needed.
• Coordinate with operations, HVAC, and electrical teams to safely execute work on shared systems.
• Follow USF and client safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and PPE requirements.
Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of commercial/industrial plumbing experience, including work on central plant / utility piping systems (steam, hot water, chilled water, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret piping schematics, plans, and technical manuals.
• Experience with troubleshooting and repairing valves, pumps, heat exchangers, traps, and utility piping.
• Basic computer skills (email, CMMS, electronic documentation).
• Ability to obtain and maintain required site access/clearances.
• Authorization to work in the U.S.; ability to work shifts, overtime, and on-call as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
• Journeyman Plumber credential or license (Pennsylvania or equivalent); equivalent experience will be considered.
• Experience in a central utility plant or large campus environment (hospital, pharma, higher ed, data center, or similar).
• Experience with:
◦ Steam systems (medium-pressure preferred) and condensate return
◦ Hydronic and chilled water systems in a central plant
◦ Backflow preventer testing/repair (current certification a plus)
◦ Chemical treatment of closed-loop and domestic water systems (in coordination with water treatment vendors)
• Experience using CMMS software for work management and asset history.
Physical Requirements
• Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Climb ladders and stairs; work on platforms and in mechanical rooms.
• Frequently bend, kneel, squat, and work in confined spaces, pits, or vaults.
• Work in hot, cold, and noisy mechanical/utility environments.
• Walk extensively throughout the facility and site.
• Perform repetitive hand/wrist motions and distinguish pipe, valve, and component markings.
Other
• Must be willing to work shifts, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, critical-utility environment and interact professionally with clients and coworkers.
