About the Agency:

The Department of Military Affairs provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, to the Virginia Army and Air National Guard, as well as the Virginia Defense Force in a diverse range of support functions. Whether we are providing purchasing or State Active Duty support to National Guard Civil Support missions, building new facilities, maintaining current facilities, operating range and training sites, providing human resource and payroll support, managing real property resources, helping give teens a better chance for success at Commonwealth ChalleNGe Youth Academy, teaching STEM to 5th graders at our STARBASE program, or the many other support functions which the DMA Team is involved in. What we do matters and supports our communities, our citizens, and especially our great Guard Soldiers and Airmen!

Purpose of Position:

To perform a variety of routine, unskilled, semi-skilled, and/or skilled repairs, installation and maintenance tasks on hot and cold water distribution lines, boilers, and a diverse institutional range of plumbing fixtures and related mechanical equipment and systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Prior plumber/steamfitter experience;

Knowledge of operations and installation, modification and repair of a variety of utility, supply, disposal systems; fixtures, fittings; and equipment such as sewage, water, gas, oil and air systems;

Knowledge of accepted trade methods and techniques;

Ability to plan and lay out the installation and modification of various utility systems and equipment;

Ability to read blueprints and drawings;

Knowledge and skill to be able to assess, detect and diagnose leaks and pressure problems. As well as the ability to diagnose other malfunctions in plumbing systems and equipment;

Knowledge of basic safety and OSHA procedures and regulations;

Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions in confined space;

Must be able to lift, carry and place into position; equipment weighting 50 pounds while wearing protective safety equipment in all conditions;

Valid Virginia Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.

Additional Considerations

Journey level or above tradesman licensure preferred but not required.

Backflow prevention certification preferred.
