Job Description
At Levi Strauss & Co., you can be yourself and be part of something bigger. We are a company of people who forge our own path and work to leave the world better than we found it. We believe that what makes us different makes us stronger. Add your voice. Make an impact. Find your fit and your future.
You will be part of Levi Strauss & Co.’s Enterprise Platform Services organization, supporting the reliability, recoverability, security, and continuous improvement of Azure cloud infrastructure and associated Windows and Linux server platforms across the enterprise.
This is a hands-on production operations role intended for an experienced Platform Specialist with a strong foundation in systems administration. The successful candidate will have practical experience administering Windows Server and/or Linux systems in enterprise production environments, combined with Azure cloud operations, infrastructure automation, monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement.
You will work within a global Cloud Operations team and collaborate with platform engineering, cybersecurity, network, application, database, and service-management teams. This individual-contributor position may lead defined technical workstreams, coordinate operational activities, and mentor less-experienced team members as needed.
About the Job
- Own the day-to-day operational health, availability, performance, and lifecycle of assigned Azure infrastructure and Windows/Linux server services.
- Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server and/or Linux systems hosted in Azure and hybrid infrastructure environments, including operating-system configuration, services, processes, filesystems, storage, connectivity, permissions, authentication, certificates, and performance.
- Monitor Azure and server platforms using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, alerting, dashboards, and other enterprise monitoring tools. Investigate alerts, capacity indicators, recurring issues, and emerging service-health risks.
- Lead or co-own the technical response to production incidents, including triage, diagnosis, service restoration, escalation, stakeholder communication, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action follow-through.
- Execute end-to-end Windows and Linux patching and vulnerability-remediation activities, including planning, prevalidation, change execution, troubleshooting, rollback or recovery, postimplementation validation, compliance tracking, and exception management.
- Operate and improve infrastructure-as-code and automation solutions using technologies such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, Ansible, GitHub, Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Maintain automation code and reusable components, contribute to peer reviews, troubleshoot failed deployments, identify configuration drift, and improve the repeatability and supportability of operational processes.
- Execute and validate backup, restore, failover, and disaster-recovery procedures. Maintain recovery runbooks and participate in recovery exercises against documented service requirements.
- Participate in Azure infrastructure deployments, migrations, platform upgrades, technical refreshes, maintenance windows, and operational-readiness reviews.
- Analyze operational trends, performance data, capacity indicators, monitoring patterns, and recurring incidents. Translate findings into preventive actions, automation, documentation, or platform improvements.
- Support resource lifecycle management, capacity planning, tagging and policy compliance, usage visibility, and cloud cost-optimization activities.
- Maintain accurate runbooks, knowledge articles, standard operating procedures, support handoffs, recovery documentation, and troubleshooting guidance.
- Lead defined operational workstreams, coordinate execution across contributors, communicate risks and dependencies, and provide clear recommendations to technical leads, managers, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate within a globally distributed, follow-the-sun operating model. Participate in planned maintenance, operational handoffs, and on-call or after-hours support when required.
About You
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant practical experience.
- Five or more years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure operations, cloud operations, platform operations, site reliability engineering, or a related production-support discipline.
- Three or more years of hands-on experience operating Azure infrastructure in production environments.
- Demonstrated experience working as a systems administrator, infrastructure engineer, server operations engineer, or equivalent role supporting Windows Server and/or Linux environments.
- Strong practical expertise in at least one operating-system family, Windows Server or Linux, with sufficient cross-platform knowledge to support and troubleshoot mixed enterprise environments.
- Experience diagnosing production issues using operating-system logs, services, processes, performance metrics, storage information, network diagnostics, and command-line or scripting tools.
- Experience executing structured server patching and vulnerability remediation, including validation, failure handling, rollback or recovery, and compliance follow-through.
- Experience supporting backup, restore, disaster recovery, or service-recovery activities, including an understanding of RPO, RTO, recovery validation, and runbook execution.
- Experience with infrastructure as code and automation using at least two of the following: Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, Ansible, GitHub, Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Working knowledge of Azure compute, storage, networking, monitoring, availability, backup, access control, policy, tagging, and resource governance.
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, including VNets, subnets, routing, DNS, network security groups, firewalls, private connectivity, and load balancing.
- Experience with ITIL-aligned incident, problem, change, knowledge, and request-management processes.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to independently troubleshoot across Azure infrastructure, operating systems, networks, storage, identity, monitoring, and automation layers.
- Sound production judgment, including determining appropriate restoration, recovery, rollback, and escalation actions.
- Ability to plan and execute controlled infrastructure changes, document risks and backout plans, and validate technical and service outcomes.
- Ability to lead defined technical workstreams and coordinate effectively across globally distributed teams.
- Ability to convert recurring operational issues into measurable improvements in reliability, recoverability, documentation, or automation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or another relevant Azure certification.
- Certification or demonstrated expertise in Windows Server, Linux, Terraform, Ansible, ITIL, or site reliability engineering.
- Experience with Azure Update Manager, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Policy, KQL, Azure Resource Graph, or Azure Cost Management.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow, GitHub, Artifactory, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, containers, or Kubernetes operations.
The draft repeatedly describes someone who:
- Resolves incidents at L1/L2.
- Escalates complex issues.
- Contributes under senior guidance.
- Supports IaC rather than owning automation outcomes.
- Coordinates only small tasks.
- Uses “working knowledge” across several core competencies.
- Requires only 3–5+ years of experience.
