Job Description

The Platform Services Supervisor leads a team of developers while remaining a hands-on technical contributor, splitting time approximately equally between people leadership and direct technical delivery. This role is responsible for the performance, development, and day-to-day execution of the Platform Services team, and personally contributes to the design and delivery of high-impact platform solutions. The Platform Services Supervisor provides technical guidance, oversees backlog and delivery execution, and partners closely with business stakeholders to ensure platform capabilities drive measurable business value. The current environment is built primarily on Azure, SQL, and Microsoft Power Platform, and the ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise across data and application development technologies along with demonstrated experience leading technical teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of developers, providing regular performance feedback, workload management, and support for technical and professional growth.
  • Serve as a hands-on technical contributor on high-priority and high-impact platform initiatives, maintaining active involvement in design and delivery alongside team leadership responsibilities.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements, define solutions, and manage tradeoffs, acting as a bridge between technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Oversee backlog management and sprint execution for the Platform Services team, ensuring work is well-scoped, prioritized, and delivered with quality and consistency.
  • Establish and enforce development best practices across the team, including code quality, testing, documentation, and deployment standards.
  • Lead technical design decisions across Azure services, SQL-based data platforms, and Power Platform solutions including Fabric and Power Apps.
  • Guide development of Power BI reporting solutions and Power Apps applications, ensuring usability, performance, and alignment with business needs.
  • Drive execution of critical platform initiatives, ensuring timely delivery with high quality and long-term maintainability.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and attention to detail, ensuring high-quality production-ready deliverables across the team.
  • Oversee data platform development including SQL development, data modeling, and pipeline design or application development.
  • Support operational excellence including incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system reliability and performance.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage team delivery, individual priorities, and stakeholder relationships concurrently.
  • Deep proficiency in Agile or iterative delivery practices with experience leading a team through sprint-based execution.

People Management

This role oversees a team of Platform Service Developers.

Work Environment

This job operates indoors with occasional travel to other locations.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days/hours of work vary and may include weekends and overtime as necessary.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS services including Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps, and related platform tooling.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI in a production environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platform technologies.
  • Proficiency with SQL Server including data modeling, stored procedures, and query optimization.
  • Experience with Python for data processing, automation, or pipeline development.
  • Experience managing backlogs and delivery pipelines using Azure DevOps or equivalent tools.
  • Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance practices within Microsoft ecosystems.
  • Exposure to AI and machine learning concepts and their practical application in a business context.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 or more years of experience in platform development, data engineering, software development, or a similar technical role.
  • 1 or more years of experience leading technical teams or serving in a formal team lead or delivery lead capacity.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure, SQL, and Power Platform in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex technical work while managing team responsibilities concurrently.
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Microsoft certifications in Azure, Power Platform, or related technologies (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Power Platform certifications).
  • Experience designing or supporting enterprise data platforms or internal developer platforms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns, ETL tooling, or data pipeline frameworks

Compensation

  • Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific location.

Employees are also eligible for 80 hours of vacation every year and 7-8 days of paid holidays throughout the calendar year (depending on location).
