Trideca is partnering with a leading Australian enterprise for a Platform Engineer to lead the rollout of its service mesh, reporting to the Head of Technology, Integration Design and Governance. You will own the Helm charts and standards that underpin a large Kubernetes estate, and you will be the person who makes large-scale change across that estate happen safely and without disruption to the teams who depend on it.

This is a platform role in the full sense. The enterprise API gateway and service mesh you build and operate become the shared foundation other engineering teams build on, so the standards you set for identity, traffic and security become everyone's secure defaults. You will also shape how the platform is delivered and mentor engineers at every level along the way.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver large-scale Helm changes to gateway, service mesh and Kubernetes resources across many teams, safely, repeatably and without disrupting consumers.
• Build and operate the enterprise API gateway and service mesh as a shared platform that other engineering teams depend on.
• Set clear standards for identity, traffic and security so every team builds on the same secure defaults.
• Onboard application teams to the mesh, making adoption simple, safe and repeatable.
• Migrate live API traffic onto the enterprise gateway across many teams without downtime.
• Automate platform delivery through GitOps pipelines so every change is reviewed, versioned and reversible.
• Design and implement observability for the gateway and mesh, spanning metrics, logging, tracing and alerting.
• Drive continuous improvement across platform tooling, processes and ways of working.

What You Bring

• Deep, hands-on experience with Istio and Envoy, particularly Istio Gateway, Istio Service Mesh and mTLS.
• Expert Helm skills in an enterprise environment, including planning and delivering Helm changes at scale.
• Five or more years in a large corporate or enterprise environment, ideally as a Platform Engineer or Staff Engineer, with a track record of building, testing and operating production services.
• Expert Kubernetes (EKS or GKE) and Docker skills, underpinned by a deep understanding of networking architecture.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, used to provision, manage and optimise cloud platforms at scale.
• Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices in a corporate environment.
• Strong development skills in Golang and Python, including building agentic workflows.
• The ability to architect comprehensive cloud solutions to complex business problems, moving comfortably between the detail and the big picture.
• Clear communication and a collaborative approach, with the confidence to ask questions, explain trade-offs, work through problems with others and guide Cloud Engineers at all levels.
• A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Practical use of AI-assisted engineering tools, and an interest in modern ways of working that lift automation, code quality and operational efficiency.
