Location:Dublin, Ireland

Organization:eBay Application Platform – Frameworks Team

We’re looking for a Platform Engineer (API / GraphQL) to join the eBay Frameworks Team within our Application Platform organization.

You’ll help build, operate, and evolve our GraphQL Federation and the platform. Your work will ensure the federation and the APIs are scalable, reliable, and developer-friendly, enabling seamless experiences for eBay’s partners, sellers, and internal teams.

You’ll collaborate closely with teams in San Jose, CA, New York and Shanghai, contributing to a global platform that implements the GraphQL federation at eBay.

If you’re interested in building high-impact API platforms, shaping GraphQL infrastructure, and working on distributed systems that operate at global scale, this role is for you.

What you will accomplish

  • Design and build scalable, highly available services, including GraphQL gateways and federated schemas

  • Develop and operate GraphQL platform infrastructure, enabling teams to efficiently expose and consume data

  • Own production systems end-to-end: monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve API and notification issues

  • Improve GraphQL performance and reliability through query registration, optimization, caching, and observability

  • Keep platforms secure and up to date with dependency upgrades and vulnerability remediation

  • Automate operational workflows to reduce toil and improve system reliability

  • Write clean, maintainable Java code using Spring Boot and strong design principles

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to deliver scalable API.

What you will bring

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience

  • Strong Java fundamentals with Spring Boot, OOP, and data structures

  • Understanding of GraphQL concepts such as schema stitching/federation, query optimization, and caching strategies

  • Experience with API design, including GraphQL and RESTful services

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Maven, Jenkins)

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud-native deployments

  • Strong focus on reliability, scalability, and developer experience

  • Curiosity, ownership mindset, and passion for building platform capabilities used across large organizations

  • Experience in building or operating GraphQL APIs (e.g., schema design, resolvers, federation, or gateway architectures) is nice to have.
