As the IT of the REWE Group Austria, we work together with our more than 700 employees to develop innovative IT products and services for all our corporate divisions in Austria and abroad, setting the tone for modern trade. Join the Integration Platform Team at REWE International AG. We build custom Kubernetes operators in Go that automate the provisioning, orchestration, and lifecycle management of platform services to make self-service simple and reliable for our product development teams. As a Platform Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain these operators and the surrounding platform tooling.

- Build and further develop our operator-based platform on Kubernetes so development teams can access Kafka-related services in a simple and reliable self-service way.

- Work on existing operators and help design new ones as we extend the platform with additional services and capabilities.

- Create self-service solutions across multiple Kubernetes clusters that make platform services easier for development teams to access and use.

- Operate and extend our Istio service mesh in Kubernetes to keep communication between services smooth and reliable.

- Work closely with platform engineers and product teams to turn requirements into practical solutions and make the platform easier to use.

- Collaborate across teams, countries, and organizations to build shared platform solutions in an international environment.

Qualifications

• Software Engineering: Strong proficiency in Go (preferred) or a comparable language such as Rust, Java, or C++. You write clean, testable, well-structured code.
• Kubernetes Expertise: Deep understanding of Kubernetes internals, including the controller/operator pattern, Custom Resource Definitions, and the reconciliation loop. Hands-on experience building or extending operators.
• Monitoring Fundamentals: Practical experience with Prometheus and Grafana, or comparable observability tooling. You know how to instrument services and set up meaningful alerts and dashboards.
• Apache Kafka: Familiarity with core Kafka concepts (topics, consumer groups, partitioning, replication) and production operations.
• Service Mesh: Experience with Istio or comparable service mesh technologies.
• Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.
• CI/CD & GitOps: Familiarity with GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines in a Kubernetes-native context.
