Job Description

Plate Cutter -- 2nd Shift

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Plate Cutter -- 2nd Shift in their Muskogee, OK location. The Plate Cutter -- 2nd Shift performs advanced production activities requiring a demonstrated high level of skill and proficiency in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through extended experience and training.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Positions work pieces for processing
  • Operates a combination of different machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, shearing, punching, grinding, bending, or pressing.
  • Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement.
  • Determines processing specifications such as materials, cutting tools, location of cutting lines, dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
  • Installs and aligns specified punches, cutting blades or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, or hand tools.
  • Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth, and feed rates; and diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections
  • Coordinates and executes material handling of all inventories to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
  • Performs limited preventative maintenance, such as lubrication, cleaning and changing of parts.
  • May train less experienced workers and perform as lead in absence of group leader.
  • May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.
  • May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping.
  • Restocks material.
  • Completes work order paperwork/documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Advanced reading and writing comprehension in English (to read work order instructions, safety and policy manuals)
  • Advanced measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper, gauges or micrometer.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
  • Experience operating an overhead crane / forklift operator.
  • Must be proficient in the use of hand tools including grinder.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination.
  • Computer Literacy; Microsoft Products, CAD Programming and ERP
  • Must be organized with attention to detail.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
