Job Description

The Manufacturing organization is seeking a solutions-oriented Vehicle Diagnostic Engineer to support the Assembly Plant Quality team. This role is focused on vehicle diagnostics in a production environment, including electrical and mechanical failure analysis, interpretation of vehicle signals, and technical root cause definition for issues identified during assembly, End-of-Line validation, certification, containment, rework and quality verification processes. The selected candidate will provide hands-on diagnostic expertise, partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Corporate teams, and lead data-driven problem solving to protect vehicle quality, product function and customer satisfaction.

Core Mission: Diagnose, understand and resolve vehicle issues by connecting mechanical operation, electrical/electronic behavior, diagnostic data and production process conditions to define accurate root cause and sustainable corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead vehicle diagnostic activities in the assembly plant for issues detected during build, End-of-Line, certification, quality gates, rework areas, yard holds and customer protection activities.
  • Use diagnostic tools to read, monitor and interpret vehicle signals, DTCs, network communication, module behavior and system responses to support failure analysis.
  • Analyze electrical and mechanical vehicle systems to determine true root cause, including interaction between components, wiring, modules, software behavior, assembly process and design intent.
  • Support and lead cross-functional troubleshooting with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supplier Quality and Corporate Engineering teams.
  • Document diagnostics, findings, evidence, containment actions, clean point definition and corrective action status in a clear, structured and data-driven manner.
  • Support Corporate Quality objectives and internal/external KPI improvement by identifying top issues, trends, recurrence risk and effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Protect vehicle design intent and function by validating repair/inspection procedures, rework methods and product disposition decisions according to engineering standards.
  • Participate in technical calls with Corporate teams, clearly communicating failure analysis status, diagnostic strategy, evidence and support required for resolution.
  • Support launch, pilot builds and production readiness activities by identifying diagnostic risks, validating vehicle functionality and escalating critical electrical/mechanical concerns.
  • Provide technical guidance to salary and hourly personnel regarding diagnostic methods, inspection criteria, issue escalation and repair confirmation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electronics, Automotive Systems, Automotive Design or a closely related technical engineering discipline. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably in vehicle assembly, manufacturing, diagnostics, product quality, electrical systems, mechanical systems or root cause analysis.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle operation from both electrical/electronic and mechanical perspectives, including the ability to connect component behavior with complete vehicle function.
  • Hands-on experience using automotive diagnostic tools for reading signals, DTCs, module behavior, network communication and vehicle performance conditions.
  • Advanced English communication skills, written and spoken, required for frequent interaction with Corporate Engineering, Quality and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical capability to investigate complex issues, organize evidence, perform structured problem solving and define root cause based on facts and data.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities, meet objectives and respond quickly to production needs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Self-directed, proactive and capable of working with limited supervision while maintaining accountability for deliverables and issue closure.
  • Full availability to support any productive shift according to company needs, including first, second or third shift, overtime and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CDA, CANalyzer/DIalizer, CAN tools or equivalent diagnostic and signal interpretation tools. Experience with similar tools from other OEMs or automotive companies may be considered.
  • Ability to interpret vehicle communication signals and correlate CAN data with physical vehicle behavior, failure modes and process conditions.
  • Experience in electrical wiring, electronic modules, software validation, powertrain/chassis/body systems, End-of-Line testing or vehicle functional validation.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing quality, product engineering, launch, rework/repair validation or issue resolution in a vehicle assembly plant.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis, technical reporting and presentation of findings to plant and management audiences.

Required Competencies

  • Technical curiosity and strong hands-on diagnostic mindset.
  • Clear communication with plant floor teams, engineers, managers and Corporate stakeholders.
  • High sense of urgency, ownership and follow-through until closure.
  • Ability to separate symptoms from root cause and validate corrective action effectiveness.
  • Comfortable working in high-intensity environments with multiple simultaneous priorities.
