Schedule Rotating (day and night shifts included).

As a PTO Technician, you may be responsible for performing the following duties for the client: Loading - This position will require personnel to load and unload rail cars, trucks or other modes of transport and connect/disconnect these modes of transport from the associated process equipment used to transfer the clients’ products and their raw materials. The loader will also be responsible for preparing these modes of transport for shipment and completing the appropriate documents and checklist. Washing - This position will require the personnel to wash, inspect and repair the items they identify as being flawed which they trained to repair. The Wash Tech will also be required to complete the required paperwork and communicate the status of the Mode of Transport once they have completed their inspections and washing. They will also be required to operate the associated process equipment used to do the washing and drying. Line Handler (Only applicable to those sites with Marine Operations) - This position will require personnel to tie up (moor) and or release (unmoor) ships and connect/disconnect liquid petroleum or other product cargo hoses from ships. Terminal Operator - This position will require personnel to perform and/ or coordinate functions relating to site operations. The Operator will ensure proper operability and reliability of process equipment, the supply and delivery systems, as well as assurance of site security, environmental and business controls. Direct Response - Respond to in-plant emergencies with mobile firefighting equipment as required. Under the direction of the Sites Emergency Response Leader (SERL ), Direct Responders shall control, contaci, and extinguish emergencies until relieved by other responding crews.

  • Loader
  • The expectation of the Loader is to follow all procedures, checklists and regulations while completing their tasks. These tasks may include activities such as:
  • Match loading schedule to bill of lading.
  • Weigh rail car and/or truck in adherence to specific load instructions.
  • Fill out loading record.
  • Insure that truck/rail car is positioned at proper loading rack.
  • Visually inspect the rail car or truck to be involved in the upcoming transfer in order to ensure that everything is mechanically sound and there is no defective equipment before loading or unloading.
  • Connection of load arms/hoses/ground straps.
  • Check for the last product contained.
  • Load rail car/truck according to loading instructions using gauges and/or strapping tables.
  • Ensure that outages, or, innages do not exceed DOT certification for the particular vessel being loaded.
  • Ensure the stenciling on the car is correct and in date
  • Check weight of rail car/truck after loading to ensure that gross weight is not exceeded.
  • Communicate with facility supervisor on any problems as they occur.
  • Disconnect loading arm/hose and inspect for any leaks prior to releasing the rail car/truck.
  • Secure the T/C or TIT as per procedure/regulation.
  • Placard the Mode of Transport
  • Complete appropriate paperwork/documentation.
  • Updates the status of all MOT which they alter in the Clients computer tracking tool
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned by the client or SGS Site Leader provided task specific training has been provided, and the individual has been deemed competent.
  • Switching Technician: The expectation of the Switch Tech/Locomotive Operator is to follow all procedures, checklists and regulations while completing their tasks. These tasks may include activities such as:
  • Examines track list in order to determine which cars are to be spotted, loaded, and/or shipped.
  • Proceeds to the designated track(s) in order to separate cars to be shipped, loaded as well as to ensure that there is proper track space available for inbound cars.
  • Conduct all Locomotive checks and report any flaws
  • Separates inbound cars and spots for loading/discharge.
  • Spots any other cars that may be designated for loading/discharge.
  • Ensures that all cars which have been spotted are properly secured by means of setting the brake.
  • Pulls loaded cars and separates cars that will be shipped from those that have been preloaded.
  • Checks outbound cars in order to ensure that all cars are properly connected.
  • Weighs all inbound and outbound loads and empties.
  • Ensures that DOT certification for weight on outbound loads is not exceeded.
  • Updates the status and location of all MOT which they alter in the Clients computer tracking tool.
  • Wash Technician: the expectation of the Wash Tech is to follow all procedures, checklists and regulations while completing their tasks. These tasks may include activities such as:
  • Manage the washed volume of MOT to ensure that it is adequate for the Clients production rates and plans
  • Cleans and inspect the inside of the MOT
  • Preps the cars for the Load Rack
  • Monitor/Operate all process equipment required to wash and dry the MOT
  • Communicates all bad ordered MOT
  • Takes ownership of the wash area ensuring that the volume of clean cars is adequate.
  • Line Handler (Only applicable to those sites with Marine Operations)
  • Tie up and release ships.
  • Visually inspect the ship to be involved in the upcoming transfer in order to ensure that the ship is mechanically sound and there is no defective equipment before the loading or unloading process begins.
  • Check the ship for the last product contained.
  • Hook up/disconnect cargo and fueling hoses.
  • Connect hoses or pipes and operate equipment to load and unload liquid petroleum, chemical or other products on and off the ship.
  • Disconnect loading arm/hose and inspect for any leaks prior to releasing the ship.
  • Process and complete the appropriate paperwork/documentation in accordance with the client’s requirements.
  • May perform other activities, such as opening containers and crates, filling warehouse orders, assisting in taking inventory and weighing and checking materials.
  • This position will be required to wear a CSA Approved Life Jackets for the job. 51. Any other tasks that may be assigned by the client or SGS Site Leader provided task specific training has been provided, and the individual has been deemed competent.
  • Terminal Operator
  • Working with multiple vessels (rail, marine, pipeline and truck)
  • Performs product receipts, product transfers and shipping
  • Filling out logbooks, task appropriate paperwork and documentation
  • Site inspections for security, environmental and business concerns
  • Development of work orders and MOC’s
  • Offloading of Fuel trucks back to storage tank
  • Connection of ground strap and hoses for truck offloading
  • Verify incoming product matches product required to truck manifest
  • Ensure that outages/ innages do not exceed DOT certification for vessel being loaded
  • Pump, valve and motor maintenance
  • Start up, shutdown, troubleshooting of process equipment
  • Visual inspection of rail cars to ensure mechanical soundness
  • Verify no defects prior to loading and/ or unloading 67. Instrument use, calibration and pre- verification
  • Ground water and Monitor well analysis
  • Marine vessel inspection and monitoring
  • Sample collecting, reading and analysis
  • Monitoring of site computer monitoring systems

Qualifications

  • Education: High school Diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience: 0-1 years of relevant work experience required or equivalent experience through education.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Previous experience in a Petroleum Refinery field would be a strong asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
