Job Description

The Dispatcher is responsible for the schedule and dispatch of workers, work crews, equipment, or service vehicles to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs, using radios or telephones. Relay work orders, messages, and information to or from work crews, supervisors, and all stakeholders involved using telephones or two-way radios. Confer with customers or supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment. Receive or prepare work orders. Gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Talking to others to convey information effectively. Managing one's own time and the time of others. Actively looking for ways to help people. Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or regulatory operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.

  1. Document, time, and human management
    1. Promptly inputs information into computer system. Schedules tasks with vendors and team members. Communicates and listens effectively notifying supervisor or manager of additional needs.
    2. Files various materials and information, performs light typing duties, and maintains logs when needed.
    3. Accurately and promptly processes and files incoming data and communication between stakeholders and staff.
    4. Works with staff to periodically remove and or update files according to established policies and procedures.
  2. Other Duties as assigned.
    1. Provides courteous assistance, guidance, and direction to departmental visitors, ascertains the nature of visitor business, and directs individuals to various locations in the department and hospital when appropriate.
    2. Receives incoming telephone calls, exercises judgment in prioritizing calls, and courteously directs calls to appropriate personnel in a prudent and efficient manner.
    3. Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner in order to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high-quality health care services.
    4. Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
    5. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Experience - 1 year experience as EMS operator, Plant Operator, Security Systems monitor or in a customer service position in a stressful, fast-paced work setting.

Education - High School or equivalent
