Make your mark while you grow your career! We have an amazing opportunity for a Plant Operator to join our Albian Plant Operations Team. As a Plant Operator, you will interact and coordinate with a team of operators and maintenance staff to ensure that production, quality and environmental targets are met. The key functions of a Plant Operator are to contribute to the reliability and safe operations of our facility and to work with many key internal and external stakeholders. This position reports to the Shift Team Lead.

  • Job location: Albian Site - Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shift (Tuesday to Monday)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Utilize your operations expertise in a dynamic production environment to maintain and optimize equipment and processes while collaborating with your team to oversee day-to-day plant activities
  • Ensuring Environment, Health & Safety and integrity are a top priority, and responsibilities include completing all work with a safety conscious attitude:
    • Issuing Safe Work Permits within a complex operating environment, including hot work, work within confined spaces, and excavation/trenching work
    • Safe isolation of process equipment including; the development of specific equipment Lock Out Tag Outs (LOTO’s), placing and verifying isolations, and blinding
    • Performing operating assignments on plant equipment to ensure a safe working environment
  • Apply Canadian Natural’s safety and operational procedures and standards across all work, including troubleshooting equipment issues and performing area maintenance and housekeeping activities such as blinding, valve and pump replacements, and operating mobile equipment
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities to maximize production, reduce operating costs, and eliminate downtime; recommend process modifications and collaborate with teams on preventative maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Utilize the maintenance management system to enter work orders, monitor facility readings, perform proactive equipment rounds and sample collection, and support the review and development of facility procedures
  • Start up, operate, and shut down unit operations while maintaining accurate shift documentation, including operating logs, Intelletrac entries, maintenance records, and safety and environmental reports

What You Bring to the Role:

  • 5 years of operational experience at a large integrated industrial utilities facility
  • A 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate, with preference to a 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate or a 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate with multiple 2nd Class papers written
  • Expertise in the following would be an asset:
    • DCS Controls Systems, Raw Water and Distribution Systems
    • Recycle Water and Distribution Systems
    • Condensate Collection Systems
    • Gas Turbines and Auxiliaries
    • Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG’s),
    • Boilers and Steam Distribution Systems
    • Heat Exchangers
    • Instrument and Utility Air Systems
    • Power Distribution
    • Ability to read P&IDs and PFDs
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Self-starter that works well in a high paced team environment with a continuous improvement mindset and previous experience commissioning new plant facilities is an asset
  • Ability to work in an outside environment, at heights, climbing ladders, and work in and around confined spaces
