Job Description



The Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of facility utility systems, including boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, and auxiliary equipment. This role ensures all equipment functions within designated parameters to support continuous hospital operations and complies with applicable codes, standards, and policies.

Essential Functions
  • Operates and monitors plant systems such as boilers, chillers, air compressors, water systems, and emergency generators.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure reliable and efficient equipment operation.
  • Responds to alarms, troubleshoots issues, and performs basic repairs or adjustments as needed.
  • Maintains accurate logs of readings, tests, and maintenance activities.
  • Monitors and adjusts energy usage to optimize performance and minimize waste.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, including safety, environmental, and operational protocols.
  • Assists in emergency response efforts and participates in on-call rotation as required.
  • Communicates with vendors and coordinates service calls when advanced maintenance is needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of experience in facility operations, mechanical maintenance, or plant utilities required
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of building utility systems, mechanical operations, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic and hand tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and in high-pressure environments.
Licenses and Certifications
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State required
  • One or more of the following certifications based on facility needs:

    NAPE Plant Operator Certification

    High-Pressure Boiler Operator License

    EPA 608 HVAC Certification

    Certified HVAC Technician
