YOUR OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting Plant Operations Management Trainee opportunity. The Management Trainee will work with various departments on the production floor to understand how each production line and department operates in our fresh pork processing plant. They will spend an extensive period learning about the employees' skillsets on each line as well as the product specifications. The training period will be up to 16 months and take place in our fresh pork processing plant in Guymon, OK. Upon completion of the training period, Plant Operations trainees will be able to apply for open positions in our processing plant and be promoted within Seaboard Foods.

Department opportunities: Harvest department, Cut department, Conversation department, Stockyards, Shipping and logistics, and Safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in new hire orientation and departmental overviews of the plant and support operations that work with the plant to improve product efficiencies and yields.
  • Knowledgeable of general company policies and job-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), training requirements, and personal protective equipment.
  • Gain understanding of the different areas in production including stockyards, harvest operations and fabrication floor.
  • Maintain knowledge of yields and variances, methods of calculations, typical problem areas and methods for corrections and improvement.
  • Knowledgeable in general company policies and job-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), training requirements, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and personal protective equipment.
  • Aid in ensuring federal and state compliance with all USDA and company Food Safety and QA policies and procedures. Responsible for assigned locations where mandatory information is maintained pursuant to company policies and procedures.
  • Developing a competent workforce by utilizing hands-on training methods in the work area
  • Assist in communicating work and performance expectations to all employees; provide guidance, instructions and feedback. Assist in the coordination of day-to-day tasks for production employees.
  • Collaborate with FSQA to assure the production of wholesome product that meets product specifications
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of product specifications, equipment, employee job qualifications and tasks

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year university or college, an Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Related areas of study include animal science, meat science, food science, ag business, operations management, general business, ag education, management, or other related fields or experience.
  • Gives excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to facilitate, encourage and lead a team to reach set goals.
  • Strong sense of urgency and works well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good critical thinking and judgement skills to reach the best possible solution to a problem.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people such as employees, managers, and senior management.
  • Stand for extended periods of time -- typically 9-10 hours a day

SCHEDULE

  • The schedule will vary based on business needs. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is commonly exposed to airborne particles and gases at low concentrations.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to waste material, feed and hog dust.
