Job Description

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Senior Plant Maintenance Tech position is to perform building repairs, utility installations and maintenance, and preventive maintenance of all systems and facilities within the building(s). This position will be responsible for maintaining and ordering of all plant maintenance supplies, including critical spares and janitorial supplies. Maintain and effect continuous improvement on preventive maintenance programs for all building systems. Coordinate and direct work tasks among other plant maintenance technicians. Perform a supervisory function within the department during projects and day-to-day work processes. Identify, develop, plan and implement large and small scale cost savings projects related to the operation of the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform all aspects of Plant Maintenance
  • Develop, maintain and perform PM programs and tasks for all building systems
  • Dismantle, move, install or repair machinery and mechanical equipment and systems
  • Layout, assemble, install, test, repair and adjust electrical fixtures, apparatus, equipment and wiring
  • Ensure that all work conforms with requirements of all applicable codes
  • Install electrical, air and data drops to equipment and machines
  • Perform general building repairs (electrical, mechanical, plumbing)
  • General pipefitting work
  • Remove snow from walkways and steps using all means provided and necessary
  • Makes sure that general supplies for plant repairs are maintained and well stocked and kept in an orderly fashion
  • Makes sure that all janitorial supplies are stocked to appropriate levels
  • Assumes leadership role in department and helps guide lesser experienced individuals to prepare them for higher level positions
  • Additional duties as assigned by Maintenance Group Leader commensurate with experience and skills
  • Will generally work as a team leader who assigns work as required to other technicians.
  • Operational Improvements Execute strategy and plans for continuous operational improvements.
  • Routinely works with outside contractors and manages their work in the facility.
  • Perform maintenance and testing of diesel powered backup power generation systems.
  • Work closely with contractors to complete assigned work and verify work is complete to SMC/building standards
  • Forklift preventive maintenance and minor repairs
  • Maintain and repair kitchen equipment
  • Project timeline management and cost analysis
  • Maintenance, testing and operational knowledge of all security systems in place
  • Work proactively with the machine maintenance department for project development and implementation
  • Track department expenditures and develop cost saving initiatives.
  • Provide input for annual department budget planning.
  • Qualify/select/schedule outside contractors for work to be completed.
  • Preventive maintenance and repair of plant vehicles(tractors, golf carts, UTV)
  • Working knowledge of conveyor/material handling systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Physical demands require the person to regularly stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and
  • arms.
  • The person is frequently required to lift 50 pounds or greater, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to hear and talk.
  • The work environment will expose employee to the following elements: Noise, Heat, Cold, Dust, Oil, Grease, confined spaces, sharp objects
  • Working heights in excess of 30 feet is common

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 Year Degree in a technical related field or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • 5+ years prior Plant Maintenance experience
  • Basic computer skills
