Airgas/Air Liquide is Hiring for a Plant Engineer

  • This position will be at our facilities situated at 3411 Marie-Victorin Blvd., Varennes, PQ

  • Work is to be performed on-site at the plant

  • Can be consulted 24/7 by Plant Manager and maintenance personnel for technical issues


Recruiter:

The ASU Production Plant Engineer will assist the plant manager in the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Air Separation production plant while maintaining safety standards, plant production, operating efficiency and regulatory compliance in the Merchant Gases Company (Air Liquide).

Technical Support and Resolution

  • Assist the plant manager in the investigation of technical and operational issues.

  • Engineer and implement efficient solutions for correction and prevention of recurrence.

  • Assist with equipment component repair specifications necessary to improve safety and production efficiency and reliability.

  • Monitors efficiencies and engineers a solution for improved performance

Documentation and Process Improvement

  • Create, update and/or review PHA’s, P&ID’s, MOC’s and SOP’s for continuous improvement of overall plant operation and efficiency.

  • Create, review and approve job plans in the Maximo Maintenance module, necessary to improve efficiency and reliability.

  • Assist Plant Manager with various transactions (POR, PO’s, Daily reporting, etc…)

Project Management

  • Manage minor projects (upgrades and retrofits as well as plant improvements and expansions) at the facility.

  • Oversee project execution with the Plant Manager so that the end result meets the original requirements in a timely manner and within budget.

  • Develop designs, cost estimates and economic justifications to facilitate the decision-making process at the plant.

  • Generate the Capital Appropriation Request (CAR) requests and follow-up on the approval process.

  • Train operations team on MOC’s and process optimization.

  • Other job duties may be assigned.

Safety

  • Promotes and develops safe work behaviors through the use of existing policies and procedures and an emphasis on safety behavior management techniques.

  • Assists with safety incident investigations, including near misses, using root cause analysis leading to recommended corrective actions to eliminate recurrences

  • Ensures applicable regulatory (Federal and provincial) requirements are met and applicable training and recordkeeping is performed to meet departmental and location requirements

  • Supports and participates in the Airgas HSEQ & RM programs and objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • 5 years of process engineering experience

  • Engineer registered with O.I.Q. (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec)

  • Knowledge of Cryogenic plant, oxygen systems, compressors, instrumentation and controls

  • Strong communication skills both written and oral

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the industrial and/or specialty gas business

  • Advanced analytical ability and problem resolution skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving ability necessary to define, design, specify, control costs and implement projects generated by a technical problem or unique customer requirement.
